DrCaleb DrCaleb:
I used to notice a bit of co-relation between how hot the springs at Miette and Banff were, and whether there was a quake in california or Japan.

Japan made them feel cooler, California made them hotter. Not scientific, but there you have it.

My wife and I spent a couple of days at Miette years ago - doing a day-long trail ride and taking advantage of the hot springs and the massages (definitely necessary after a day on a horse!). But I heard that Miette lost its source some years back. Has it returned?

Haida Gwaii has lost the hot springs on Hotsprings Island after the earthquake. :(

Interesting. The Haida Gwaii Hotsprings will be missed but I wonder at some of the others now like Bishop's Bay, Tofino and others: I'd be curious to see if there are noticeable differences.

{Scratches head}

I've never heard that. And a good friend of mine is head lifeguard there. (which is why I'm there often)

I've never though to look it up, but apparently there are studies on this very subject!

I was sure I had heard that a few years back and thought it was a shame. I must be mistaken. Thanks for the info.

THey're just off temporarily. Soon as the pressure builds and it goes off like Krakatoa....

We've got hot springs all over the damn place here. Just find a patch along the river(always keep in the back of your mind that the river may also be an illegal dumping ground for radioactive, industrial, chemical or biological waste) and divert some cool water to make it tolerable...hint... do not share their location. Up north, they have cold springs as well
