Even better, re-badge him as a Royal and post him to 1RCR.
An even better thought.
Open up these Arctic bases they keep talking about and give him a 6 year posting.
Two ringers are used to useful jobs like counting snow flakes
Or his beloved stars.
Freakin idiot.
If he feels that strongly about not pledging allegiance to the Queen he should have joined the Indian National Army. The only problem with that would be that he's about 63 years to late.
Is it true that the Union Jack gets saluted? And God save the Queen...that is still around?
Of course. As does the Stars and Stripes, The Star Spangled Banner, The Tri-Colours and any National flag, anthem and commissioned officer in the service of those countrys.
Here is an example, Caps Game
The Jack and God Save the Queen have a pride of place of course.
Well, good to know we're still her 'subjects'.
Why don't they send him on an exchange over here to the UK. I'd be happy to swap ........ although being only a Lance Corporal myself might be a problem. See him try and explain why he doesn't want to pay his respects to the Queen in a room full of British Squaddies, Marines perhaps or even Paras! I've seen officers with black eyes after a night in the mess for doing alot less.
And just for info. It's only the Union Jack when onboard a ship. Otherwise it is just called the Union Flag.
Attacking tradition at all angles....
I belong to a professional body that at every meeting they toast the Queen and Canada.. I only toast Canada...I dont believe in the monarchy as something we should still be supporting in Canada...it is redundant...
I'm sure you realize the huge gulf to what you experience at your meetings and the military. Remember, it's more than a toast to a troop. The Queen is the Commander-in-Chief. Her position requires the respect and compliments that our Commander is due. It's one of the foundations to good order and discipline of any military organization.
For me, the idea that this Officer would rather have a different Commander-in-Chief than the Queen isn't the central issue. It's the hypocrisy he's demonstrated whenever he accepted the compliments paid to him by a subordinate. It also rings hollow when you consider the privledges he's freely accepted as one who hold's a Queens commission. I don't begrudge him his redress or grievance or bumping up to court. It's his right to do so. He obviously has a problem with the decision reached and he's not likely to start paying the appropriate compliments. He should resign. Immediately.
actually yes I do know the difference.. my dad was military... was only offering a personal opinion.. and as for the rest of your post.. I totally agree.. he was aware when he joined up..
