Will they give the Mars Rover back?

I hear on the radio this morning on this subject that the politics of global warming are forcing these Mars scientists to have to push for the conclusion that methane on Mars means that there is life on Mars. Because if methane production can be demonstrated to be a geological process then that dumps a chunk of AGW policy in the shitter (pun intended) that states that methane is produced by cattle and people and that reducing the numbers of cattle and people is key to stopping methane production.

Now it seems that methane may well be produced by geology and not just farts.

Good show on discovery the other night, they say if the core is molten and a massive volcanic explosion happens it could actually create an atmosphere that would support life.

BartSimpson @ Sat Jan 17, 2009 8:14 am

Not enough gravity on Mars to hold an atmosphere. Or at least one dense enough to support life as we know it.

Arctic_Menace @ Sat Jan 17, 2009 8:20 am

True enough. Also, Mars has an incredibly unstable axial rotation, which would wreak havoc on an ecosystem.

An Ecosystem as we know it on Earth...

They do have an atmosphere,it,s just not good to breath.

For us. But life on Mars doesn't mean it should be (or is) like life on Earth. I can imagine life evolved there. Just think outside the box, and forget the idea that "we" are all there is...

Exactly.

I would imagine that if there is life on Mars, it would be a wee tad different then life here. It's almost certain it's underground as well and would create it's own atmosphere. Look at the new life we find here on earth all the time, in the most extreme environments that until recently we either didn't know existed or didn't think could support life. Our understanding of what it takes to produce life is pretty limited and narrow I'd imagine.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Wouldn't it be awesome of we were digging into the ground and found an underground city of aliens?

*imagines the chaos*

Not too mention that Captain Kirk would have a whole new crop of green and purple chicks to hit on!!!!...... ... XD
