While I'm far from an expert on Quebec politics it does seem to me that most Quebec politicians of any note have flirted with sovereignty at some point in their careers. I suspect it's more because it can be vote getter than out of any real principles.

Just to remember you that "sovereignty" is a neologism created by the separatists as an euphemism. So it's a separatism point.
edit: I meant "sovereignism" or everything related to that. It's separatism.

The BC liberal Party was just a new name for the SoCreds. Is this what the NDP is for the BQ? Jack knew all about this before he stepped down....so it was a move of desperation to ensure they keep their Quebec seats, much like Mulroney's courting of the Separatists was.

intention is something that needs to be taken in consideration. Mulroney had 'good intentions'. He was trying to engage the separtits, showing them they could have a voice in a unified Canada....Trumel was a member of parties that actively promoted the dissolution of Canada, and only recently left the dark side, much like a rat deserts a sinking ship.
