I have always felt that an imigrant woman that learns one of the local languages is more likely to hear about, and learn about human rights.

Nice move, Quebec!

No shirt, no shoes, no service...

No face, no hands, no service...

Whats wrong with that?

Because the former serves a practical purpose (hygene), while the latter is arbitrary, pointless and mean-spirited.

Not really. It is pretty scary to have someone walk in to your store at 3 at night whose face and hands are not visible...

Yet the no shoes, no shirt guy is not scary at all, and would not have you call the cops because you feel threatened.

I think a neccessary side debate for this is the claim that you must see a person's mouth to teach them french. I call BS on this claim.

In all likelihood a burka/niqab clad women would not be in a store at 3 am and I think the counter person would be extremely less threatened by them then some guy without shoes and a shirt.

Yep. The one place where it would be a large impediment is a deaf person and their ability to read lips.

I'd be more scared of a person with no shoes, no shirt, and piercings through every loose fold of skin on his face, but thats just me.

I think a deaf french teacher would have a hard time teaching french, everyone would graduate with an english accent.

So is there a law prohibiting blind teachers from teaching french?

ASLplease @ Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:43 am

Does anyone know how many blind teachers have lost their jobs lately in Quebec? I smell a class action lawsuit against the Quebec government.

We might as well convert all French radio stations to English....its impossible to understand french without seeing their mouthes ROTFL

I don't know, I've seen guys with no shirt threaten people all the time...in fact it seems that being shirtless is some sort of prerequisite for starting fights with complete strangers, appearing on an episode of COPS...is that show even on anymore?

As far as I know, there haven't been any indicents involving women in niqabs robbing stores at 3am or beating up strangers for saying that Metallica sucks.

Well I didn't specifically mean teach french but what about teaching sign language? A deaf person teaching non-deaf people how to read sign language would find the inability to read someones lips an impediment.

What about in other situations? Its simply one area where I acknowledge there would be a reason for a problem.

So was this lady's teacher a neccessary lip reader? and even if the teacher was, is that cause to expel the student?

I think not.
