More like the steady takeover of the USA by Canada.

This is simply formalizing a reality that has existed for years and, most notably, was acted upon when the CF rescued people after Katrina.

Nothing nefarious happening here, just two friends putting down on paper a defacto reality that when either has an emergency the other will help.

Wait, this is happening for a LONG time...who cares?

It's kind of fun to play what if. Like what if the fault line that runs through the Vancouver, Victoriaish, area gives way, and there's a massive event. What happens? Or what happens if a series of bombs goes off during the 2010 Olympics? Do the American armed forces start streaming over the border? How will it all be managed?

camerontech @ Thu Feb 28, 2008 2:54 pm

no! we would have to ask for their assistance, like if a earthquake happens or a major flood and the American/Canadian forces are quicker to the draw then they go and do search and rescue, put up sandbag levies, distribute food and clothing, provide medical care, ect...

Why do people always have to think of the worst possible scenario? it seems like some of you really have no common sense, the US won't come in here with guns blazing and barking orders, what could they possibly have to gain from doing so? we're neighbors/ trading partners / NATO allies FRIENDLY AID is all that will come from this

Bacardi4206 @ Thu Feb 28, 2008 3:00 pm

Bad situations are prevented by people who look at the worst scenarios, if we all thought of the world as rainbows and gumdrops then imagine all the bad stuff people would have gotten into. "No Mr. Bush, I believe you totally. You're my president Sir, if you say they had WMD's then they had WMD's"

Your government would ask for help most likely concurrent with our military and a buttload of non-profit organizations who'd be mounting up to come help. Prior mutual aid agreements with states and municpalities would have kicked in on their own so the first responders would probably be US fire departments and police agencies who'd be on scene as fast as they could get there. The military and the reserves would take a day or so to spin up so it's not like they'd be johnny-on-the-spot save for those units that were already spun up for other reasons (like training).

Here is a good reason why we need to be ready to help each other:

as to the trading partners thing, that may not fly so well, both Clinton and Obama want to can the NAFTA, and dictate new terms on their own ground. Bush actually disagrees with this oddly enough.

id send the URL of where this can be found but i still have a day and 8 posts to go first, if you want the URL msg me and ill send it
