I like this girl she says "Notley is not Hugo Chavez, but she's doing a cheap imitation."

But...but...it's the progolodytes doing it in the name of social harmony.

Thanos @ Tue Feb 16, 2016 8:44 pm

Dippers really stepped into it this time with this dumbass mistake. Like Ezra won't go nuts with a plum story like this being literally handed to him on a silver platter. Oughta be good for a few laughs. Probably shouldn't have hired this one as their new media consultant.

” Gunn Reid said Tuesday. “He said any working member of the media in Alberta is allowed to cover the legislature.”

Not a big deal, it's just that some reporters are more "working members" than others, But, all are still equal even if they can't attend Gov't functions or announcements like the others.

I've know Sheila Gunn Reid and she's a fighter.

I like her too! I signed the petition. I was going to make a contribution as well. The only thing I don't like is when they state that they don't want any money in the lawsuit, they only want the policy to stop. I believe that people should pay for their mistakes in life. Notley is acting like a bully. Let her pay for it out of her own pocket. Her thin skin is the reason for the lawsuit in the first place. She should have to pay all legal fees involved out of her own money. Don't put the taxpayers of Alberta on the hook for her stupidity and arrogance. I say go for a reversal of the illegal policy, repayment of all legal fees (triple damages for frivolity), and monetary damages for emotional distress as well. She has a law degree. She should know the law. No excuses.

This reminds me of when President Obama was pouting about his treatment from Fox News. He tried to ban Fox News from the pay czar interview. All the other media stepped up and stated that they would boycott the events if Fox News was banned. Too bad we can't see the same kind of solidarity from your media as well.

Sorry, they'll all be too busy high fiving each other, and congratulating the government.

Yeah, cause why would we need a free press or free speech in Progtopia? Right Canadian media?

Relax and take your number early for the coming bread lines.

Lorne Gunter, Rick Bell and lots of other journalists who lean to the right are allowed in and cover the Legislature and government announcements all the time.

Notley government bans right-wing group from covering announcements

The key word in that statement is group, not media.

$1:
And yet Mr. Levant, by his own admission, is not a journalist. “I’m a commentator, I’m a pundit,” he explained to the judge. “I don’t think in my entire life I’ve ever called myself a reporter.”

If Ezra and his group don't consider themselves media, why should anyone else?

. . .

That's kind of the key, isn't it? The Federal Conservatives did pretty much the same thing for 10 years - if you aren't on 'their side' they you weren't invited to the press conferences. If Ezra's band of merry misfits aren't going to report the news truthfully, why invite them?

On the other hand, it's also the same mistake as what the Federal Conservatives made. You can't squelch criticism by banning the messenger, you have to issue press releases countering all the shit that seeps out of Ezras nappies.

That said, the "Rebel" media sure do seem to have a hate on for the Alberta NDP. So much that they'll post blatant lies to try to create some sort of scandal. Reminds me a lot of groups like "Americans for Prosperity" which don't really do what they pretend to do.

andyt @ Wed Feb 17, 2016 7:30 am

Press credentials should be issued by the press gallery, not the govt. The Rebel is allowed in Parliament, so allow them in the Legislature as well.

But the problem is that the more mainstream media these days will breathlessly report the bullshit they pick up on the net, including from the Rebel, without properly fact checking it. Just as they'll straight ahead report the pr bunf from the government without looking into the spin.

They are allowed in the Legislature.

$1:
Darcy Henton, president of the Alberta Legislature press gallery, confirmed that journalists do not need accreditation from the gallery to cover news conferences at the legislature

"It has long been the practice in Alberta that reporters and photographers who present their news credentials to legislature security can acquire visiting media passes to cover news conferences," he said in a written statement.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/ ... -1.3450577

What they aren't allowed is early access to 'embargoed' materials before a press conference is given, or access to news conferences.

$1:
According to The Rebel, Nicholas was removed from a Calgary lockup for the royalty review. Lockups allow media access to embargoed documents and unattributed technical briefings from government experts.

On Feb. 3, Rebel correspondent Reid was barred from covering a news conference at the Alberta Legislature with the premier and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Reid said security told her she was on a "no go" list. When she asked for more information, someone called the head of security, who ordered her to leave.

andyt @ Wed Feb 17, 2016 8:07 am

$1:
A few days later, on Feb. 3, Gunn Reid attempted to attend the joint news conference held by Notley and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the legislature.

“We emailed Darcy Henton, the president of the legislature press gallery, to make sure that we would be meeting the requirements to attend this press conference, as we have in the past,” Gunn Reid said Tuesday. “He said any working member of the media in Alberta is allowed to cover the legislature.”

But, Gunn Reid said she was told by security The Rebel was on a “no-go” list, and she was escorted out of the building by a sheriff.

Can you guote Ezra saying that Rebal Media isn't part of the Canadian Media. And it wasn't Ezra that got the boot, it was 2 young ladies, that do consider themselves journalist.

I guess Rex Murphy should pack his bags, after all he just a lowly commentator that should not be allowed to have an opinion, how can he be part of the media.
