WHY on earth would we want Ontario's nuclear waste?

You made it, you deal with it. Arseholes.

Tectonic stability, I'm sure. My guess is Salmo doesn't get a lot of quakes.

This is why we are in the NW part of Italy, and not a more interesting part
like Rome or Venice.

Earthquakes for the research reactor that was used.

Makes sense. If we want to reduce greenhouse emissions, we should be producing and storing more nuclear waste. Unless that Lockheed Martin thing is for real.

Nuclear power plants... nobody wants to deal with the waste.
Hydro... nobody wants the dams.
Fossil... nobody wants the pollution.
Wind... those ugly things kill birds and make weird noises.
Solar... mirrors, need I say more.

When God told us to forth and multiply, maybe he meant, you know, multiply. Make us all nerds and keep us from having sex. He forgot how we can turn anything into a excuse for sex. wanna do the times table with me, baby?

Ontario's nuclear power generators haven't produced much waste ... a few swimming pools' full in over 50 years. Sending it into an active seismic zone (All of BC must be that or plate tectonic are nonsense)is quite bizarre. A big chunk of Ontario is Precambrian Shield which is almost the oldest an most stable land mass on the planet. I would imagine that this guy has flipped his wig. Just because he's an "engineer" doesn't mean that he is a good one. There is no push nor interest in Ontario to export our spent reactor fuel.

Then they shouldn't have any trouble disposing of it (themselves). Anyone, I don't care which province, that decides to use nuclear power, should have a local disposal plan in place before the friggin plant ever goes up. It should not be up to someone else to look after it, nor should it be shipped anywhere near across the country. That's just reflippindiculous. As you said, this guy has flipped his wig.

I'm sure that they don't. This article is pur hoarse schit.

Well that's good news.

It is local, we are one nation after all. Unless you want to really start playing the NIMBY game and at it's logical end the waste would need to be stored in location at the plant. Which is stupid on so many levels.

Nuclear fuel is so massively power dense that it makes sense to build power plants near where it is needed to save on transmission costs and energy loss.

The partly spent fuel is so small that shipping it anywhere for storage is economically viable.

Sadly most of the publics knowledge about nuclear power is zero. Most people can't make rational informed opinions about nuclear power, nuclear materials and nuclear waste.

~

The heavy water reactors still produce large amounts of waste when looked at from the potential of the fuel they are using. Getting less than 1% of your energy out of the fuel is hugely wasteful.

Lucky for us if we decide to get real about nuclear power you can take that waste and make it into fuel again.

Use up that other 99.5% of the fuel in breeder reactors or liquid fueled reactors.

And there lies the crux of the matter. Just because this twit has a degree doesn't mean he's in any way shape or form competent and given this weird statement it's quite obvious he probably didn't finish in the top 95 percent of his class.

Besides, if we can't get a pipeline built because of "environmental" concerns I just cant's see BC opening up a giant nuclear waste facility just to help Ontario out. But, if Ontario ever gets serious about this maybe they can swing a deal with Gregor "Green Thing" Robertson who has no problem exporting and burning his garbage anywhere but Vancouver just so he can expound on how green his city is.

Ontario could take and burn that cities garbage and Vancouver can take the nuclear waste and store it in the Canada Post Tunnel which is supposed to be filled in anyway. It's a win win for everyone. Vancouver gets rid of it's garbage and Ontario gets rid of it's pesky nuclear waste.

I can't see how that is possible. BC ( and Yukon) is where most of Canada's seismic activity occurs and also where all our volcanoes are, The Canadian shield is the most stable rock going.

One thing is for sure, that waste won't pass through Alberta. I'll be goddamned if our oil can't flow through BC but we are supposed to be the highway for some nuclear garbage dump.

Damn straight.

R=UP

Ontario's got more that enough of that nice stable Canadian Shield to bury that crap in. Man up and pay the union miners the overtime they need to make the hole nice, deep, and safe. Keep it the fuck out of our West.
