Fellow Canadians... How do you like him now?????

Even when Harper and JP proposed tougher copyright laws I was not against them. I may or may not have downloaded my fair share of music and movies, however I understand that these are things that people spent their own time and money creating and marketing.

Mind you I have had more desposable income to see Nickelback, Ozzy, Metallica, Lenny Kravitz, etc... I think promoting yourself by touring is a better idea then arresting or suing fans of your music who download illegally.

I never really liked him that much myself, however, I did feel that he was the better of the two candidates for American interests.

Well hopefully the rumours have it right in this, and the new guy knows something about the technology. But more, I hope he understands the difference between stealing for profit, and stealing not for profit, as sadly the past laws have seen them as the same thing, while it seems most people understand there to be a world of difference between the two.

I thought Barrack was supposed to be the people's candidate. I thought he was going to be the guy who wasn't going to dance to beat played by the big corporations. He isn't though. Disney and the boys say jump, and he not only says "How high", he says, "Don't worry, I'll make the Canadians jump too."

Yes please Mr. Obama. Only enforce laws that don't hurt us.

Which part of the adminsitration has put Canada on the watch list? If it's the FCC then it perfectly explainable as the FCC is comprised of industry lobbyists who are perpetually stuck in the past.

I'm not sure why any of this a big surprise to anyone. This has been an issue of the US recording industry for quite some time. The democrats are well known for being more protectionist than the Republicans, something that even came up as an issue during the election. Put the two together and what do you get? Stuff like this.

Once again, Here come the US to punish Canada once again for not joining them in the invasion of Iraq (Iknow that is not mentioned).

If you don't pay for your movies and songs , you're stealing.

The US is making out like Canada doesn't enforce copyright laws what so ever which is completely false. We just finished passing our own version of copyright enforcement but unfortunately for the American recording industry / film industry (but fortunately for us) it wasn't what they were hoping for.

We don't have dumb ass laws that allow copyright holders to sue teenagers for millions of dollars for downloading music. We instead decided to go with a much more moderated approach of fining the individuals (which I think is around $500 or so).

Besides, what about that piracy levy I'm forced to pay on everything from hard drives to blank cds? How much free money has that generated for these industries? Hell even if I didn't download off p2p sites before I'm going to make a point of doing so now just so I can get my moneys worth and just to spite those pricks.

How about i-tunes? The music industry has claimed for years that "you're not buying a cd but rather your buying the rights to listen to the songs". Really? So if my hard drive crashes and I don't have a back up that should mean I am fully entitled to re-download the song. I've purchased the rights for said song haven't I and Apple has a record of that purchase do they not? That means I should be able to download it as many times as I choose so long as I'm not distributing it. But nooooo, that's not the way it works.

How about games? I purchased a copy of _________. I typed in my key when I installed it and I registered my product. But if you loose that key or scratch your cd good luck convincing anyone that you bought the rights to that game and therefor you should be entitled to a replacement copy or at the very least have the software company resend your key. Oh and heaven forbid you buy a new computer or new hard drive.

The recording industries in what ever form want to have everything their way while limiting the consumers choice in how they listen to, back up, and store their digital purchases and over charging for it. I'm sorry but it just doesn't work that way. The industries concerned here are fighting a loosing battle. For every site they shut down two more will pop up until they pull their heads out of their asses and come up with a better way to sell and distribute their products that's fair to the consumer.

Until then they can kiss my ass.

*steps off his soap box*
