The UCP just announced the changes to renewable energy in Alberta, and they've made huge chunks of land off-limits to renewable energy, and imposed all sorts of extra red tape for proponents to jump through.

Some of these changes make some sense, but the policy largely limits new projects in favour of O&G projects. Instead, they should have mandated battery back-ups like those used in the US. Down there, battery back-ups can provide extra power for 5 to 6 hours, ensuring that even on dark, cold winter nights, there would be extra power to cover peak hour needs.
