Alberta officials cautioned against releasing pension survey data: internal documents
$1:
Postmedia has filed more than a dozen freedom of information (FOIP) requests in an effort to secure the records, specifically the answers to five long-form questions, but has been blocked each time by officials who alternately claim the records either do not exist or cannot be released.
A series of subsequent FOIP requests regarding how those initial queries were processed revealed department officials believed releasing the survey results would come with a cost.
“The ministry may be impacted upon the release of this records’ package,” the documents state. “The applicant may further release the information into the public domain.”
Take Back Alberta leader ordered to hand over documents or face $5K fine, possible arrest
$1:
Elections Alberta launched an investigation into Take Back Alberta in November 2023. The agency is seeking to determine whether the group has complied with the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act, including whether:
donors were eligible to make political or election advertising contributions
advertising contributions exceeded legal limits and were “properly recorded and deposited in appropriate bank accounts”
money from TBA fundraising events was used for political or election advertising
ad spends were properly recorded
reporting requirements for third-party advertisers were complied with
Also at issue is whether any Take Back Alberta events were prohibited as “party activities” and whether the group is “affiliated” with the United Conservative Party.

Neither optics nor ethics seem to stop government from taking gifts
If you can't use your office to enrich yourself, why spend all that money getting elected?

Finally, there’s the how-not-to guide, authored by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. It was two summers ago when this space highlighted Alberta’s perhaps unexpected position as Canada’s capital of wind and solar power. But Alberta is squandering its position with ill-considered political interference, an attack on free enterprise. Last year’s shutdown of wind and solar approvals, alongside a newly erected thicket of red tape, has led to the scrapping of more than four dozen projects. Meanwhile, Ms. Smith’s main focus remains fossil fuels. In January, she suggested a desire to double oil and gas output from current record levels.

It's what the alt-right doesn't understand. When you burn methane, it's gone. If you use solar, it comes back the next morning for free.

Privatization concerns sparked by potential new Alberta health-care 'prototype'
$1:
Alberta Health is currently exploring a proposed "campus" in the city of Airdrie that would see a "one-stop shop" built that aims to serve most health-care needs in the municipality located north of Calgary. The proposal comes from a private company called One Health Associate Medical.
Proponents behind the project say they hope it could serve as a prototype for other communities across Alberta struggling to serve residents amid a health-care crisis, with a goal of reducing unnecessary urgent care visits and wait times.
