That seems like an awful lot to extend the lifespan of 13 helicopters - maybe we'd better off spending a few billion more and getting new SAR choppers.

We should sign a contract for new choppers, cancel the contract, pay $50m cancel fees, pay millions a year to keep the old choppers flying till they finally start dropping out of the sky and killing soldiers, run a competition for new choppers for $1b, then choose a chopper that wasn't as good as the initial chopper and buy those.

It's the Canadian way.

I haven't spread my rep enough to boost you on this. Can somebody do it for me?

The reason I wanted to rep you on this, Doc, is because sometimes I really, really hate it when you're right.

I remember how Chretien wasted $500 million on cancellation fees. Were those for new planes or choppers?

New Navy Sea Kings, IIRC. Then they dillied and dallied, Harper ended up buying Cyclones which now have cracked rotors and aren't as good as the Sea Kings. But they land on our Frigates, so they won.

Me too. :(
