What in irresponsible idiotic thing to do. Unless it is part of a uniform to bring a weapon into a house of God is not only sick it is an offense to God.

For the pastor to do this is nausiating to the Nth degree. This love affair with guns causes more problems, grow up.

   

There's a number of social groups that have sprung up around concealed carry firearms. I've heard of picnics, bbq, hikes, you name it. I don't see anything idiotic about this.
These people are law abiding folks and probably safer and more responsible than most of their neighbors.

   

I bet the local negroes are now keeping a low profile.

   

Sigh...

Anyway, I agree with riden. These situations aren't unique, and it sounded more like a church fundraiser than a sermon (not sure how many sermons have raffles occurring during them). It's basically good publicity for the church, no matter what anti-gun advocates consider it, and I'd honestly be comfortable there, crapload of guns or no.

   

I dunno about that. Apparently the guns were all unloaded, so unless they were thrown really hard...

   

Agreed. Religion(albeit local) run amok.

   

This, the opulence of most organized Churchs, and the death penalty, are three issues that make me think organized Christianity are just mocking the historical Jesus.

Anyone who thinks that they are being representative of Christ, and bringing a gun to a church is an appropriate act of faith, is deluded, to say the least. That is a political issue not a religious one. Even the accepted words of Christ markedly delineated the political from theological.

It is as absurd as a Christian saying, it is okay to execute people, but not fetuses.

   

First, it's one church. Second, I'm not sure any organized church really supports capital punishment anymore, but I can't be too sure.

However. "Historical" Jesus grew up in a time where having some sort of weapon on you was paramount to survival. Bandits, wild animals, and other threats probably occurred during Jesus' travels, and I'm sure some of his followers were armed.

   

The stupidest thing I've ever heard... It's one thing to be allowed to have a weapon but in the house of God, no. And why bring a gun and not bring bullets? If they bought them for protection, what if someone decided to attack them after church, knowing they would have no ammo?

   

It doesn't really seem like something a church has a place in advocating, but being a Second Amendment nut myself, I see no problem with it.

In case it was lost on anyone, the next time you are asked 'what is the difference between a Canadian and an American' . . . remember this story. It's just something so alien to our culture!
