Pauline Marois urges PQ troops to rally behind Bloc Qubcois
Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
The Quebecois deserve the right to self-determination.
The question is whether they are willing to pay the price for that self-determination. While the Parti/Bloc Quebecois makes noise about nationalism and independence, they still suckle at the federal governments teet and practically rely on Ottawa to keep on running their little socialist wonderland. Need I also say that their priorities are hopelessly screwed up? The city of Quebec and the Provincial government can somehow scrape the money to build a hockey arena for an NHL team that is a far from a lock, yet they can't find the funds to build bridges, improve their hospitals, or pay their (crown) prosecutors.
One of the big problems I have with the PQ/BQ is that they are too hung up on language and culture, which alone does not make a viable nation-state. As I said on a similar thread, Quebec is well on its way to becoming a failed state from my casual. While I hesitate to say that Ottawa should boot the province out of the country, I'm less hesitant to say that Ottawa should be more patronizing to Quebec if the PQ comes back to power. If they insist on spending tax dollars on hockey arena and the language police instead of where it needs to go (like hospitals and infrastructure), then they don't have best interests of the province at heart.
My biggest fear is that the PQ/BQ is making Quebec irrelevant to the ROC and the rest of the planet, and if they insist on separation then they are in for a rude surprise. I doubt Ottawa will pick of the tab for their PROVINCIAL debt, nor do I think the ROC will be receptive to any variant of "sovereignty association," which defeats the purpose of self-determination in the first place. If Quebec decides to pursue the course of nationhood then they better be prepared to take responsibility when the bill comes. They will be on their own.
This group sounds like a real pain the ass for ROC.

Like a big, fat, infected hemerrhoid.
I suspect that many votes for the PQ and BQ are more strategic than anything else. No Canadian government wants to be the sitting government if or when Qc decides to go. Frankly on the federal stage it a pretty smart move. Have two political parties, one federal , one provincial who sole purpose is the betterment of that particular province

ahhhh...you're hoping for another socialist dystopian movement to try and take hold.

So most say, "even though I don't want Québec to separate, I'll vote Bloc/PQ because they represent us the best.
You probably summed up the root of the problem right there. No wonder the 'hot-heads' in the ROC get mad when the party most Quebecers vote for 'demand' more money.

Québecois are getting tired of the separatist movement and the rhetoric that goes with it. The demographics of Canada and Québec are changing due to immigration and an aging population. I have been doing some door to door on this campaign and what I am hearing is a shift from the Bloc toward NDP but also the other parties as well. I have been told by some that the Green party is their choice. So yes, Québecers are changing.
