It's not really clear who it was that set the fire. Was it the Christians who felt they were being short changed on food, or was it Muslims who were unhappy with non believers not following their traditions? The physics teacher here is Muslim, and he says the long days are a bit much. Mind you he used to teach in Wollaston Lake which is even further north.

How does any of this stand to reason? We have a centre burnt down, we have Muslim and Christian refugees, we have men who were angry their noon meals were too small and who are not fasting. Did they burn the hall or did Muslim men who were mad at them burn the hall?? One heck of a crappy piece of journalism here!
Didn't, however, stop the usual suspects from making their usual assumptions about their usual suspects.

German authorities last night said two North African men were suspected of starting the blaze and causing extensive damage 'as part of a dispute over food'.
Police and prosecutors said one of the two 26-year-olds was seen pouring flammable liquid onto a mattress and setting fire to it, while the other told fellow residents: 'We had to do it so that things change.'

Now that seems to be somewhat better reporting. However it does nothing to explain why Muslims would be mad about not getting enough food at a time they were supposed to be fasting. Is this an interfaith conflict between branches of Islam or just some guys being bitchy?

Not all Muslims fast during Ramadan...not saying it was them that started the fire, but you can be 'medically' excused from the fasting. Sort of the same excuse for eating pork for Muslims. if that's all there is and the choice is starvation or bacon, they are allowed to eat pork. Mind you they and a lot of Jews don't follow religious proscriptions against pork and such.

Interesting. I knew about Jews and pork, but then I have known Jews from a young age, only meeting Muslims in my 20's.
