RCMP's Elliott slammed for wearing uniform
I'm confused by this. Cox said it was fine and Sweeney advised him to do so.
Sounds like another liberal media witch hunt on a slow news day to me.

I'm not looking at the external politics on this one, I'm commenting on the internal problems being further exacerbated by Elliot's poor leadership style and the constant flow of bad decisions that the RCMP command seem to be making.
I see that BC is reconsidering it’s relationship with the Mounties and they are looking at forming a regional service in Vancouver. I don’t blame them. The RCMP is in a shit state.

I agree with your comment about his lousy leadership style. That's what the article should have been about, not that he wore a uniform and sidearm whilst in Afghanistan. Personally, I wouldn't go within 50 miles of a war zone without being armed.
Considering the myriad of other issues involving his leadership, this bit of nit-picking is a non-starter for me.

For me, his wearing the uniform he hasn't earned and carrying a pistol he hasn't qualified properly on is an obvious symptom of the malaise that infects the RCMP leaders at this time.
I haven't seen any other civil servants on Afghan visits packing heat. They have able and well armed personal protection teams.
How the fuck do you become Commissioner of a police force wtihout being a cop at some point???

It is a bit crazy isn't it?
Harper fucked that one up. He could have pulled a big name cop like Fantino or one of the many ex-RCMP guys who are now running smaller provincial/regional/municipal police services across Canada.
Elliot was on an impossible mission from day. Nobody will ever take him seriously.

The same can be said about any top bureaucrat of ministerial position. Ministers of Education should have a background in education(in any area, primary through university....and not just a freaking consultant)), Health should be run by those who have been or are doctors and nurses. The Minister of Justice should be a former judge or lawyer, an MoD should have at least served in the military. etc. etc. Canada's top cop should be a cop or at least been a cop.

Nice idea Shep but it will never happen. Bureaucrats being what they are, protect and promote their own because they know how to run things better than anyone who actually has relevant experience.
