What a joke. I went to the Real Canadian Superstore in Airdrie, not that I shop there much with the new Walmart Superstore expansion.

The parking lot was almost bare and a Monday afternoon.

I picked up about 30 items and got to the cashier and rang them up. Then I asked for a bag.

"OH We are bagless now, you have to buy a $5 bin or a $1 bag."

Well bought the bin because my groceries wouldn't fit in the bag.

I will never go back to a Superstore ever.

They are so cheap you have to pay for your cart, $1 and now you have to buy a container or bag and bring it with you..

Within a few months they will be back to giving out bags, anyone wan't to make a bet??

   

The funny thing is they say this helps the environment.

If I happened to be near a bagless Superstore without my $1 bags or $5 bins handy (I do most grocery shopping on account of already being in the area), I would have two options:

1. Make a separate trip for groceries making sure I pack the bags (wasting a litre or 2 of fuel in the process)
2. Shop somewhere else.

Looks like everybody loses except their competitors!

   

I go to superstore a lot. I try to bring my own bags when I can. They are going to lose a lot of drop in customers. Nobody is going to want to purchase a solid bin or expensive bag just to pick up a handful of groceries. If you want to be green at least offer paper bags. Well they don't call it stupid store for nothing.

Honestly I don't see what the big deal is, putting your groceries in a bin is a hell of a lot easier than stuffing them in a bag.

Superstores in south Calgary are always busting at the seams with customers.

   

Costco has never had bags at all, and nine times in ten they're out of leftover boxes too. You just keep the stuff loose in your cart, then your trunk, and take it home. It's never been a problem, even with produce and bread. You just put those things in your trunk last. A pain to be sure, but definitely lower waste.

   

What's weird though is that the Superstore in PG makes you pay for the plastic bags, yet here in Abby I still get them for nothing.

Here's what I did. I bought two (and luckily found another lying around) and I put them in my trunk all the time so I don't forget them.

   

let me know if they are still not getting customers. I would love to shop in an uncrowded superstore. Especially near the milk aisle

   

If they bring this 'innovation' to the one near my place, I'll stop shopping there altogether. I hate stupidstore as it is, simply because they have crappy selection, no staff to ask for help, and if you go after dinner, it looks like the apocalypse, because the produce section is bare and the shelves empty.

We usually have a Costco bag in our trunk, for trips there or to stupidstore.

   

All the grocery stores have reusable bags here, and there's one store (an Atlantic Superstore) which has gone bagless.

The reusable bags are great, and I use them voluntarily - stuff doesn't poke through them or stretch them all to hell, and larger bags means fewer bags means less handles to worry about.

Some stores have simply started asking if you need a bag - I never understood the point of putting a package of batteries in a little bag (except, I guess, the fact that you're walking around with the label showing).

Now I find it's a pain in the ass to go shopping and end up with an armful of plastic bags I'll never use.

Some of the stores down here have started selling cloth bags. Walmart sells them for $1. We love them. They are easier to carry than the plastic ones and you can fit more in them than the plastic ones. I personally have no problem with the bagless policy. We keep a few cloth ones in each vehicle.

   

Well so sorry if I don't carry loose change around with me, as I use my ATM card and carry very little cash, if any most of the time.



Maybe so, do carry your bin with you everywhere. I'm in Airdrie, and just remember I need a few things, so I want to stop at a grocery store to buy it.

Well, I didn't bring my bin with me, so I can buy one for $5 or go to Walmart, where a get a cart without search for a loonie, and I get bags.

Superstore will loose BIG!!



Not the ones I have been to lately.

   

They sell in bulk, it's generally already in a box.

   

This will become the norm.
