_______________

If you don't talk to Lena Dunham you're gay, ok cool.

Simple question, who the fuck cares what S.E. Cupp does or says on Twitter, what Slate Magazine writes or if Beckham and/or Dunham are gay or not?

I know I don't. :|

...and what's this overuse of the word "berate" everywhere. I don't think I heard or saw the word more than 3 times until Twitter. Now I see it all the time. Everybody's berating somebody else. Fuck people, get a life.

Unless there's morw to what Dunham said than what's in thw article, I don't even see wherw she implies he was gay...

Who the fark is SE Cupp? Or the other two for that matter.

Just a bunch of look-at-me's from the celebrity culture. They get uncomfortable and itchy when they think they aren't the center of all attention. Y'know, kind of like someone who can't be bothered to stand up for the playing of a national anthem because everything absolutely 100% of the time has to be about them.

raydan @ Fri Sep 09, 2016 2:09 pm

What's worse, the one who doesn't stand up for the anthem, or the people who can't stop talking about it... I really don't understand why it bothers you so much.

So, from now on, do we call everybody that made it in life, whether it's family money or not... entitled? Is it an absolute rule that everybody who protests something or other has to be dirt poor? If I go see a game and don't stand up for the anthem, do you think it will have the same effect as somebody who's entitled... of course not?

I'm not saying what he did was right or wrong, some people will agree and some won't... don't you think he knew this before he did it, that there would be backlash? That's probably why he did it. But he DID something HE thought was right... if you did something for the same reasons, you wouldn't care what others thought.

Exactly...

Is 'entitled' even an argument?

I might as well stop voting, since every damn politician is entitled. Can't watch pro-sports either, movies, TV. Can't listen to music either. And I guess I can cross shopping off my list too since big business is entitled.

Damn-it FOG... you better bring me something to eat.

Of course he knew there'd be backlash, controversy and that his actions would cause rifts between players on his and other NFL teams but he did it anyway. The question is did he do this truly out of a conviction and need to help people he'd never lived like nor, been raised with or did he do this as an excuse to raise his public profile and make it more palatable while affording himself with an excuse as to why he went from a starting Pro Bowl QB to a 3rd string has been.

I'd be much more inclined to believe the champion of the downtrodden theory if any inkling of that kind of conviction had been shown before but, since there wasn't it's pretty apparent that the he's got ulterior motives for doing this.

As for the it's about colour excuse. Sorry I don't buy that and if what is predicted to happen, happens, Sunday afternoon where "all" the Seattle Seahawk players sit on the bench during the anthem, you'll likely see just as big if not bigger backlash against the white players as you do against the black ones.

Hijacking a ceremony that belongs to everyone to use as your own personal platform and then expecting others to be happy and accepting about it shows a large amount of disrespect and an over inflated sense of personal entitlement.

andyt @ Sat Sep 10, 2016 6:45 am

His actions don't seem to have had any negative consequences either for him or the league. His jersey sales went from well down the list to number one, and he was bumped up to second string from third. I haven't heard of any mass loss in ticket sales for the league, nor any other negative consequence. We'll see if Seattle fans really stop coming for games or what have you after Sunday, but I doubt it. All this seems to do is stimulate more interest in the league.

To say that a ceremony that's supposed to be about celebrating freedom means that everyone has to be forced to slavishly follow the protocol seems ironic to me. The ceremony doesn't really belong at a sports event anyway, just cheapens the meaning of it. Celebrations of nationalism should be reserved for truly meaningful events, or they just become part of showbusiness. What's next, singing the anthem before the movie starts?

I'm comfortable with 'berate'. 'Curate' as a verb on the other hand...
