They are fairly new, so not likely.

Mistakes like this are actually easy to make. I just wonder if their design cycle is so aggressive that approval from an engineer wasn't done or didn't catch the flaw.

I imagine an engineer or a team of engineers DID catch the flaw but the actuaries/accountants/management decided that the risk was low and the returns were high so they went forward in order to please the shareholders and the Board of Directors.

So what if a few people die so long as sales and stock prices rise to meet projections.

I don't know the laws regarding Engineering in Korea, but in Canada if the design isn't approved by a licensed Engineer, then it doesn't get built. There are obvious reasons for that! ;)

Don't wave the flag too much. Ford Pintos were built in Canada!

It's like when people drove their BMW's through flooded roads thinking Warranty would cover any damage.

Samsung Officially Cancels The Galaxy Note 7
$1:
The initial recall was for 2.5 million devices. That, in itself, will have cost Samsung a lot of money. Not it must recall all the phones it sent out as replacements and will likely have to destroy them. Bloomberg reports that Samsung shares fell 8% on Tuesday which wiped some $17bn from the value of the company.

______________

Holy shit Samsung's worth lost $17 billion? 8O The Apple Sheeple Media drove BlackBerry into the ground with negative articles, reviews and Samsung could be next.

Canadian_Mind @ Thu Oct 13, 2016 8:27 pm

Doubt they could pull the same thing with Samsung. As much as the media destroyed BB, corporate incompetence was just as damaging. This is a single (large) failure on Samsung's part, not a continuous series of failures like BB.

No one will admit doing that, it's like trying to find someone in Alberta that voted NDP.
