EyeBrock EyeBrock:
I'm sure the Democrats are quite happy that she won't shut up, just like the Tories are always glad to hear Bob Rae's latest wisdom.

The Democrats use Palin as a scapegoat and if she were to be gone from the news tomorrow they'd simply find someone else to vomit on.

John McCain comes to mind in that regard. Before he won the 2008 GOP nomination he was the darling of the media and the left (and he was very popular on this site, too). Then he won the nomination and he suddenly became the object of ridicule and scorn and the target of numerous slanders and libels. In some respects, I think he picked Palin as his VP just to give the wolves someone else to savage.

Next year when whoever it is wins the GOP nomination I fully exprect to see a tantrum of hate from the left aimed at the poor sod regardless if they deserve it.

This fellow is currently an up-and-comer and I can't wait for someone to ignorantly (and predictably) call him a racist or a bigot. That'll be fun.

McCain did a complete 180 on practically everything he once stood for. That was even before Palin came into the picture.

Nah, McCain didn't become a punchline until AFTER he hitched his wagon to Palin the whackjob. Most of the vitriol directed towards his campaign was because of her, not him.

Had he picked someone who wasn't a constant PR disaster, he might have had a chance.

Upset me? Nothing really, but he completely went from opposing Bush Tax Cuts, for eg, to supporting them. Numerous other issues that you should be full aware of, but apparently are not.

McCain was a Maverick, but long before he was nominated for Republican Presidential candidate he had abandoned that wholesale. He became indistinguishable from any other Republican on Policy. That's why John Stewart and many others were so disappointed in him. Hell, if you want a really good overview of how McCain changed, dig into the Daily Show archives.

McCain also did a 180 on immigration reform. He used to be one of the more reasonable voices in the GOP on immigration. When he saw that it was too unpopular with the TeaBircher wave of unchecked rage against any and all reasonable compromises on any issue he quickly ditched what he previously believed in (and gave a big FU while he was at it to the Hispanic community in Arizona that had always given him significant support before). He essentially joined in on the insanity that Brewer, Pearce, Hayworth, and Arpaio were cooking up because that's the direction the angry zeitgeist in Arizona ended up turning towards.

Overall, looks like McCain was quite the frequent and honored guest.

All of those events took place well after the 2008 elections and have...what?...to do with the question I asked Sandorski?

Not my fault if you can't comprehend that political and ideological trends have long and complicated life-cycles that invariably stretch back more than a few months or so.

So McCain was flambed by clairvoyant leftists in the summer and fall of 2008 for the things he was going to do in 2009 and 2010?
