'Security threat' Russians to join Canadian, U.S. forces in exercise
$1:
OTTAWA — Canadian and U.S. military personnel will take part in a historic exercise next week with their Russian counterparts to battle airborne terrorism, just days after Defence Minister Peter MacKay claimed that Canada was facing new security threats from Russia.
Last Friday MacKay was warning the public that the Russians were increasingly trying to violate Canadian airspace. He vowed to get tough with the Russians whenever their air patrols come close to domestic airspace.
Meanwhile, for months Canadian and U.S. personnel at NORAD have been planning the Aug. 8 exercise, which will involve, for the first time ever, the Russian military and NORAD co-operating in tracking and intercepting a hijacked aircraft.
Critics have said that MacKay was using a routine Russian patrol flight last week, claiming it was a threat to Canada, in an attempt to sell the public on the Harper government's plan to spend $16 billion buying new fighter aircraft.

I've been a supporter of the Conservatives for a long time. But I have to say I'm getting a little PO'ed about all the B S coming from the Cons about Arctic soverignty. There is a baseball saying about what the Gov. is doing, An alligator mouth but a hummingbird A$$. Please no more talk about the Russians or anyone else. No more big announcements about what we are going to do. How about actually building a heavy icebreaker or the other ships. It should not take 10 years to design and build a ship. ACTION not talk. And this B S about Russian bombers is embarrassing.
All the above together are keep an eye on the Chinese. I would be amusing to watch the Chinese try to argue to the Russians that they are entitled to 20% of their arctic resources. Everybody knows what Putin's position on that would be.

Right you are! harper and Mckay are using this crap as a diversion from the real issues in this country. Appealing to the right wingers with politics of fear. The public will see through it. You read comments like yours in the papers daily.

You'd have to be a retard to let that divert you from what's important.
