Taxes versus the Necessities of Life: The Canadian Consumer

Thank you for finally changing your tone, and noting that there isn't anything wrong with it. I was quite surprised at your response regarding people in public service..but now that I am in private service, I still get a pension plan and my company matches and incentivizes for participation. Most larger companies do as well, so I really do not see the significance nor, the hostility you show towards it.
BeaverFever BeaverFever:
I could go through this line by line but it's just such a waste of time.
Could you now? Well aren't you precious? I'll tell you what. Here's another massive Liberal waste of tax dollars you can add to the list, if you ever decide to nut up and deal with the issue.
How about the millions and millions of dollars to deal with the illegals Trudeau pretty much invited to jump the border? Canadian taxes will be paying for that screw-up long after we forget the mop-top son of a Commie responsible for it. Luckily for him.
$1:
Hey? Why don't you ask someone from Houston how they're enjoying their 'nice weather' that's 'not expected for 'a hundred years".
Why?
Does experiencing bad weather make you an expert on cause? If so I could just ask myself. I can't remember a time I haven't seen bad or even freaky weather.
As to Hurricane Harvey though, let's remember it's the first landfall hurricane hitting America's Atlantic coast in over a decade.
Remember how after Hurricane Katrina the IPCC held a press conference where they promised more frequent and intense hurricanes like Katrina? Didn't happen did it? No landfall hurricane for over a decade. Another failed prediction. In fact, have your guys ever gotten anything right? Little old ladies betting their grandkids' birthdates as lottery numbers have had better luck in the prediction game than what you'd like to try to pass off as scientists predicting climate.

I don't have any hostility towards it and I don't think I had a hostile tone before.

Every one of your posts is like a kid spilling a box of marbles and I just don't have the energy today to go around picking them all up.
People expect more than just defence and infrastructure, as evidenced by the fact that medicare, CPP and other social programs are more than a half century old. People also want schools and food safety inspectors and a long list of things. These make up most government spending. Your pet gripes like Khadr etc. are small potatoes not driving the tax rate.
On Harvey:

“When storms start to get going, they churn up water from deeper in the ocean and this colder water can slow them down,” said Trenberth, a senior scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. “But if the upwelling water is warmer, it gives them a longer lifetime and larger intensity. There is now more ocean heat deep below the surface. The Atlantic was primed for an event like this.”
While the number of hurricanes may actually fall, scientists warn the remaining events will likely be stronger. A warmer atmosphere holds more evaporated water, which can fuel precipitation – Trenberth said as much as 30% of Harvey’s rainfall could be attributed to global warming. For lower-lying areas, the storm surge created by hurricanes is worsened by a sea level that is rising, on average, by around 3.5mm a year across the globe.

Then you're talking to the wrong person. You should be talking to boots:
bootlegga bootlegga:
How dare the government use taxes to pay for things like this!

/sarcasm
As for me I gave you a couple billion dollars more or less of wasteful garbage the current government added to the bill it wants the Canadian taxpayer to pay. And that was pretty much just off the top of my head. So yes, it's not just defence and infrastructure.
The things you personally think are garbage are valued bu other Canadians. You're in the minority
Anyway out of a $330 Bn budget, how much do you think is "wasteful" spending that could easily be eliminated and would significantly reduce taxes?

I should not try to get into that conversation... I live in Quebec
Now the below has nothing to do with this thread, but this might be the most wrong you've ever been and God knows that's some ferocious competition.
So I'll help out with a little education so you don't have to walk around embarrassing yourself with your glaring ignorance.

OK, so first of all remember earlier when you learned how in 1900 another hurricane went through Galveston and killed, I think it was around 9000 people? It was called "The Great Galveston Hurricane." This was long before Al Gore was even rubbing his hands together in anticipation and counting the dollar signs floating in the air before his dreaming eyes. Long before they had to change the name from Global Warming to Climate Change because it stopped warming.
Now, seeing as you bring him up let's discuss Kevin Trenberth, how little he knows about hurricanes, how wrong he's been about them in the past and how useless his predictions have been.
Actually we don't have to discuss it. Just read this.
https://nofrakkingconsensus.com/2011/07 ... l-midgets/$1:
Kevin Trenberth, who is not a hurricane expert, had participated in a press conference in which the media and the public were led to believe that a link exists between global warming and more intense hurricanes. When Landsea protested to the IPCC that this was improper, especially given the fact that Trenberth was in charge of the hurricane section of the climate bible then being prepared, he was blown off. In his words:
"It is beyond me why my colleagues would utilize the media to push an unsupported agenda that recent hurricane activity has been due to global warming. Given Dr. Trenberth’s role as the IPCC’s [coordinating] Lead Author responsible for preparing the text on hurricanes, his public statements so far outside of current scientific understanding led me to concern that it would be very difficult for the IPCC process to proceed objectively with regards to the assessment on hurricane activity."
So here's the thing, if Trenberth's Hurricane predictions have been useless in the past and even contrary to what actual Hurricane scientists think why should we believe him now?

Really? Are you saying the majority of Canadians wanted illegals to jump the border and are happy to pay for them now that they're here.
I'd love to see that poll. I won't though. It doesn't exist. You're full of it if you say that majority exists.
Oh and here's some rainfall records you might want to send on to Trenberth:
$1:
Galveston 1871 – 3.95” in 15 minutes
Woodward Ranch 1935 – 15.0” in 2 hours
Thrall 1921 – 36.4” in 18 hours
Alvin 1979 – 43” in 24 hours
Storm Harvey never got anywhere near these sort of totals.

Is that "billions of dollars"?? Will taxes fall dramatically without these illegal immigrants?
Canadians generally support immigration and accepting refugees BTW. They may not widely condone people sneaking in to the country but they slso don't widely condone turning away applicants at a legal border crossing either.

They'll increase with them. Global warming nonsense might hit the billions price tag before the illegal immigrant nonsense price tag though.
In any case there is no majority supporting these costs as you claim.
http://www.torontosun.com/2017/07/05/wh ... popularityCanadians didn't support the Khadr gift of 10 mil either. There's tons of crap spending Canadians don't support. You were wrong in your boast that such a majority of Canadian support exists. That was the point.
But what's new about you being wrong, right?

Taxes are not going to increase because of few extra immigrants in the system. I remind you that the federal budget is $330 Billion. The amount of budget going to these people is infinitesimal.
As for Khadr things like that are one-off instances and not budget items or programs in and of themselves, except that the government , like any enterprise, keeps a reserve for legal liabilities.
Let me put this in simpler terms: people might not be happy with a city official's recent decision to fill potholes on Maple street before filling potholes on Elm street. But that doesn't mean they're opposed to filling potholes generally.
