Cmon - students have fought probably since they were sitting around Socrate's knees. It's up to educators to stop the worst of it - and this kid sounds like a bit of a girly boy - using books and pencils on his victim. If he'd just given him a punch, I doubt much would have come of this.

Reference the bold. A bit of a girly boy? How about 100% little girl. I would be ashamed if any of my boys had fought using pencils and books.
If I was the "victim" in this, girly boy would be spitting out his teeth the next time we ran into each other.

You must be thinking of a different country than Canada, our education system is a joke, we care more about their mental status than academic success. We hold their hands every step of the way threw the education system leaving them completely unprepared for the real world when they are forced to take care of themselves (one reason many young adults end up moving back in with their parents after moving out on their own).
Fights will always happen, its our nature till we learn more self control. I've seen babies fight, so its not school that causes it.
