The Omnibus Good Guys Thread

Getting tired of the bad kind of news wrecking everything all the time. Gotta focus on the other stuff, kick at the darkness until it bleeds a bit more daylight, so might as well start here. Load this thread up with as much basic decency as you folks can, and please try to keep it as non-political as we possibly can. Thanks.

An elderly Illinois couple has something to be thankful for after a repo man who took their car had a change of heart and helped them get it paid off.
Illini Asset Recovery co-owner Jim Ford tells KTRK-TV that after repossessing the Buick from Stan and Pat Kippling, he pulled over to call the bank in order to see if he could pay it off for the couple.
Ford set up an online fundraiser and says he raised the bulk of the cash needed in the first eight hours. The newly paid off car was returned to the Kipplings on Monday.
Ford says the couple reminded him of his late grandparents.
“My grandparents are gone, but you know….I could see them. I knew what was going on. Their medications have doubled, tripled, and I know that. I know that’s happening to everybody. I knew why they were behind.
Stan Kippling says getting the car back is "just like hitting the lottery."
Not posting these individually. Some good ones at the site below.

Nice kid that Taylor Swift.
Bart. No pictures of Islamic religious sites suffering an act of God, no matter how cheery it makes you feel.

An 88-year-old British military veteran tapped into his decades-old training to reportedly save a young woman from five knife-wielding thugs.
John Nixon, who fought in the Korean War, said he stepped in when he noticed five youths grab a woman’s handbag and clothes while walking down Raglan Street, in Kenthish Town, last month.
“My initial thoughts were to divert their attention away from the girl who was screaming. I shouted ‘leave her alone,’” he told the Evening Standard. “But they turned on me, saying ‘We’ll take your money instead,’ and I said, ‘No you don’t.’ Kids this age are full of bravado, you see, they weren’t expecting a surprise.”
Nixon said his military training kicked in and he fought back at one of the suspected thieves, slugging one in the neck.
“I disabled one but another pulled out a knife so I had to try and deal with him too,” he continued. “I tried to disarm him and in the process I got stab wounds here, there and everywhere. There was a lot of blood. He wasn’t trained and it was more of a pocket knife. Luckily my wounds were shallow.”
The robbers fled and Nixon was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police officers applauded Nixon for the Jan. 27 attack, commending him for his “extraordinary bravery.”
Nixon said he trained as a special forces soldier, or commando, in the British military at a training camp at Achnacarry Castle in the Western Highlands of Scotland.
He said he was sent on intelligence missions to Egypt, the Middle East and Germany. After leaving the military, he served as a bodyguard to Doctors Without Borders in Nigeria.
Nixon said all he wanted to do was help the woman being attacked.
“I’ve been shot in the leg and even bitten by a snake, the venom lay dormant in my spine for years,” he said. “I’ve been near death so many times that situation just doesn’t worry me. The woman ran off screaming, but I hope she is okay.”
He added: "Fear is not in my vocabulary."
Police said no arrests have been made.
There will always be an England.
Those five brigands would be well advised to turn themselves in before the SAS or the Gurkhas get hold of them.
Yea, those guys are likely to fall of a curb and hurt themselves. A few times.
Good on Mr. Nixon! ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif)

Kindly Native good guys rescue floofy good guy pups alone on an island in a Manitoba lake:

A litter of puppies has been brought back to civilization after they were discovered on a small, uninhabited island near Cross Lake, Man.
Come Saturday, they will be on the road to Winnipeg with Norway House Animal Rescue after being picked up from the island on Wednesday.
It's not clear how the pups ended up on the island.
Vandekerkhove said she got a call Monday from a volunteer from Cross Lake, more than 500 kilometres north of Winnipeg, saying that a boater named Junior Cook discovered the pups, which are about four months old.
"He actually heard them the night before. He and his friend were out and it was getting dark already, and they heard some noises on the island," she said.
"They took their binoculars and they couldn't see anything but some dark shadows, and they heard a bunch of crying. They thought originally it was wolves."
When daylight came, Cook returned and found the puppies. He gave them whatever food he had on the boat and got in touch with the rescue, said Vandekerkhove.
She said they supplied him with food and the puppies ate a whole bag in a day.
While she has only seen photos and videos of the dogs, she said that based on conversations with Cook, it seems the puppies are doing well.

I want to believe that they're the same place because if I get there I need to know I'll see my kitty again.

Damn right.
They had an episode of Supernatural where the Winchester boys got killed and went for a tour of Heaven and found out that when a person dies and gets there they basically just go back to the place in their life where they're the happiest and completely stress-free and stay there forever. No more having to work. No more taxes or money worries. No more asshole bosses or crappy governments. No insane family members that wreck everything for everyone else. They ran into one of their old stoner hunting buddies who'd been slain by demons. The guy's idea of perfect happiness was going back to his favourite bar where he could be drunk all the time (no hangovers, no bitter beer) and pass out on top of the pool table.
Sounds like fun. My own vision would be an endless golf course along the sea-shore with no heavy wind, no rain, the sun's out but never going above 20 C, and a drink-cart girl in a bikini driving by every second hold. The dogs and cats would be there too, playing in the rough chasing gophers. I must be in Heaven, man!
