The Royal Union Flag (known as the Union Jack) will be flown from sunrise to sunset on Government of Canada buildings and establishments across the country on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, to mark the anniversary of the Statute of Westminster.

You have a better grape vine than me Mario. I just went through the message traffic and damned if I can find it!

A fine reason for the Jack to fly!

I successfully whined to my local mayor and they now fly the Union Flag on the three days a year the Flag Act says they should.

The Union flag is a part of our history whether the politically correct crowd like it or not.

God save the Queen and Merry Christmas!

Please let this be a joke. We're now going to showcase a foreign, colonial symbol as a means of celebrating a day on which we took a step towards full independence?

Unbelievably, astonishingly retarded.

As a nation, we've still got a lot of growing up to do.

I hate how we are still connected to Britain, but I like this idea. Shows our history.

So none of OUR history matters to you?

The links to the British crown in this country go back 400 years. Just because the Union Flag doesn't jive with your blinkered and overly politically correct view doesn't mean those links cease to exist.
The UK values it's Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Viking, Norman French roots, what's wrong with celebrating those who came before us and built this country?

Really you pinkies are no different from the Nazi's, burning books and re-writing history to suit your own mantra. Growing up means forgetting our roots? Convenient.

Very sad but not unexpected from you.

Do they fly foreign flags on their government buildings?

The Union Flag is supposed to be flown on 3 days according to the Flag Act. That's our Canadian Law Lily.

It's not that I hate our heritage, but I want to be completely separate from Britain. No Governor General or anything like that. I'd still support embracing our history.

Any particular reason?

Personally I think the structure as it is could be tweaked but left basically as-is.

An elected GG would be good, as would an elected senate, but we should hang on to what makes us Canadian.

Pop down to a Legion sometime and see the disgust at the loss of our heritage on the faces of the old guys who were 19 years old when they landed on Juno Beach.

That makes me want to hang on to the way we are.

Especially valid when we have an unprecedented influx of immigrants who neither speak English or French, or are particularly bothered about what happened in Canada in the 400 years before they landed here or even 4 years before they got to YYZ.
