Wow. I wonder what people died from? When's the last time you heard of people dying on a ship that ran aground, especially in presumably calm seas.

Only a bit over half the lifeboats were launched - many jumped into the sea to swim ashore to the nearby islet.

Most of those on the cruise were Italian but there were also large numbers of German and French passengers as well as some British nationals.
