Because creating "us" means creating "them" and that's where prejudice and war comes from. Also because a nation isn't a real thing.


There's no such thing as an anthem that doesn't suck. They're all terrible bits of music.

   

I'd suggest borrowing Land of Hope & Glory from the Brits but it wouldn't fit anymore, for us or them either. The hope is mostly gone and the glory really only belonged to the older and greater generations that earned it, not to their lesser children who threw it all away.

   

I think the Marseillaise is incroyable. The music anyways, have no idea of the lyrics.

   

Ok, but it was changed in 1913, so it may have been to inspire patriotism in the soldiers in the lead up to WWI so it has historical value and makes it more interesting. I say keep.

I think there's some kind of movement over there in France that wants to get rid of la Marseillaise because patriarchy/racism/whatever. Probably the same kind of folks that want to ban urinals because being able to stand up to piss is the ultimate cisgender oppression or something. Christ, what's going on with those ridiculous campuses where these idiots have the free time to even think up crap like this?

Its written as an emotionally charged article. Ok he's dying but that does not mean someone should give up what they believe just for his dying wish. A bad idea is still a bad idea even if coming from a dying person. I lived in his riding years ago, he was less than spectacular as an MP. Just befitted from a safe riding and did little for it.

   

The Soviet/Russian anthem is pretty epic too. And they change the lyrics as needed.
