I never said I liked it, just that it was a necessary evil. If you'd prefer Canada had the international presence of Senegal, then we can stop spending on foolish things like this, the Olympics and our military anytime. But if you enjoy living in a free country that is part of the developed world, you need to pay the piper once and awhile.
And Edmonton has hosted large international events (Commonwealth Games, Universiade, and the World Track & Field Games) and I was all for it. I also heartily support Edmonton trying to get the 2017 World Expo.
