:D Same national approval rating as the leader of a separatist party. Good move on pushing for this election Iggy...

That's what I don't understand, why did Iggy go for it? The budget may not have been exactly what the pther parties woulda done, but it was hardly any kind of a revolutionary document. It was actually pretty staid, if you ask me. The libs are in terrible position in the polls and there's nothing in the budget to campaign against... huge tactical mistake? or something up their sleeves?

Ignatz probably had to do it or face a caucus rebellion that would have led to his ouster as leader. The same result will happen for him anyway when the Liberals tank out on voting day, but at least this way he and the party can pretend to be all studly and macho by forcing an election. This is still the party of the HRDC and gun registry debacles that cost billions, so another $300 million of wasted revenue on a thoroughly un-necessary election is small change to their way of thinking.

Iggy has done this before. He did his "Mr. Harper your times up" in the fall of 2009. He didn't have the support of the caucus, was low in the polls and hadn't much of a platform. It's conceivable that he's actually that bad of a leader, has no judgment. I'm pretty sure the rest of the MPs will be glad to see him leave.

The last time the CPC was in majority territory the other parties brought out the "hidden agenda" fear mongering.....I wonder if they will do it again???

andyt @ Sat Mar 26, 2011 2:57 pm

They don't need to with me. I'm sure it's true. You only need to read Harper's Canada is a communist country speech to know.

Things can swing wildly during a Campaign.

I think they're going to play the contempt of parliament, Harper is the demon of democracy card pretty hard. They lied yeah I know, most of them do. Most of us realize that. I don't think it will resonate very loud with voters considering what's going on in other parts of the world where democracy does not exist.

It's going to take getting caught with bags of tax payers cash exchanging hands for people to turn. That precedent has been set already.

But anything can happen during a campaign one mispoken sentence, one knock out blow during a debate is all it takes.

$1:
- In Saskatchewan/Manitoba, the Tories are ahead at 66 per cent, while the Liberals have 18 per cent and NDP has 13 per cent.

As someone originally from Saskatchewan, this just shocks me. The Tories lead by the most in these two provinces. What has happened to the federal NDP in Saskatchewan and Manitoba?

I seriously wonder what Iggy was thinking when he triggered this? This could be worse for liberals, as he may have handed the country to a conservative majority.

Does he have a trick up his sleeve, or did he just decide to give it a shot, short of saying "fuck it, let's just do it!". He seems unprepared.

This is Iggy's last Hurrah !

He's got to win this one or its mutiny on the Bounty time.

It could be one of three things.

One, the Conservatives have done an acceptable job of navigating the economy through the worst of the deficit so far. The longer they stay in power the more credit they'll be able to take for it. The opposition may either be thinking let’s throw an issue out there such as ethics to lessen that advantage or they may want to try to take power towards the end so they at least can claim some credit.

Two, the opposition may have a coalition deal up their sleeves.

Three, Iggy is being pressured to make something happen much the same as Dion was when he was the party leader.

I think either of the latter two tie back into the first. The longer the Conservatives are in power the more comfortable people will become with them and the more difficult it will be for the Liberals in particular to make back the ground they have lost and are continuing to loose.

Oh, not to mention they probably want to call an election at a time of their choosing as opposed to having the Conservatives spring one when they want. They probably could have done a better job of picking that time frame though.
