Good, about time! I can't believe the Liberals are holding up a peace of leg that just about every Canadian I have talked to says we need?

I just don't get it, if it is GOOD for the country then pass it, I don't care what party your from. It isn't a sign of weakness to pass things that are in the nations best interest!

they are not holding it up.. it has to be debated in the senate... and I doubt its the only thing on the table...
bring on the election lets get rid of the tory clowns..

Of course the Liberals are stalling it in the senate, so when the gov't fails they can maker a softer cushier bill that wont really accomplish anything.

The only clowns in this government sit on the opposition!!!

So go f yourself

They aren't debating anything. They are holding up so as piss off the Conservative government because they are all liberals in the senate.

Unfortunately for the Conservatives, there are constitutional problems with the legislation proposed. Reverse onus conditions never tend to play out well for the government in court, coupled with the constitutional requirement that bail be not unduly denied leave for one sticky piece of legislation.

That said, I hope that the Conservative government is willing to push ahead with their bill; the proposed ideas have a lot of common sense. Although I do understand why the Liberal Senate is looking over the bill carefully. I'm sure some of it is politics, but some of it unfortunately isn't.

Why the Liberals want to hold up tough crime bills is beyond me. After all it was they that turned our criminal justice system into a mere legal process. Cons can vote thanks to the Liberals; therefore, more cons means more liberal votes right? As far as the Senate holding anything up, it's just a matter of time as our senate is a useless apendage with no real power or authority. It is a merely a vestige of the House of Lords.. full of inbred knuckleheads, left and right, there by patronage and an ability to play a musical instrument using the blowhole on the top of their head ala Tommy Banks.

Green is the new Red

Because tricks really meant, literally, that each Senator was a Liberal...

being debated ? give us all a break . they are holding them up and there is no way to deny that fact .

the senate should explain there position on these bills to canadians and why they do not support them .
and why they think its ok to be weak on crime and let the criminals get away with it , without facing serious punishments .

but the liberals have a majority in the senate after all those senators that chretien and martin appointed . so the opposition can't do much anyways.

sure there has been a few others added , one new senator from alberta and martin added a few pc and conservative ones . but its more or less liberal dominated .
