OTTAWA (Reuters) - Justin Trudeau, son of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, would take his Liberal Party from a distant third in Parliament to forming the next government if he were chosen as Liberal leader, according to a poll released on Thursday.
The Forum Research phone poll, conducted for the National Post newspaper, said that if the 40-year-old member of Parliament was Liberal leader and an election was held now, his party would win 39 percent of the popular vote.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservatives would be reduced to 32 percent, and the left-leaning New Democratic Party (NDP), currently the biggest opposition party, would be pushed back to third place with 20 percent.

Looks, name, flair, oratorical skills, connection with young people. He's got a lot going for him.
The Liberal Party itself though is in a policy funk. Time to throw the baby boomers overboard and bring in fresh blood, fresh ideas.

The conservatives never bothered to attack Iggy's policies though. It was "just visiting" for the entire election and 6 months prior.
What are they going to attack, his fathers legacy? That's not going to work. Canadians (outside oil country) adore him.

So far he doesn't have much in the way of policies to attack. Which will be an attack in itself. They'll also attack his youth and inexperience. And his father's legacy in regional ads in the west and parts of Quebec.

I only mentioned it, because a bunch of the women (18 - 35) in my office were giggleing and saying that exact thing when news of this broke.

I bet a lot if dudes in the same age group outside Alberta would vote for him as well.
Stack him up against Harper (shitty) and Mulchair (crazy) and I see him doing quite well irrespective of experience.
I'm interested enough to see what he brings.

The fact that he's only ever been a drama teacher? "Not a leader"?
There really isn't any other angle they can get him at.
As I've said before...if he gets elected as leader he'll likely be our next PM. He's personable and that has an infectious ability to spread such as we saw with our friend Obama from the South.
Substance doesn't matter. Experience doesn't matter. Can people relate to you? Do people like you? If he keeps his emotions in check, keeps charming people and brings forth moderate policy, Harper has a real problem on his hands.

Those of us old enough are seeing some tarnish on the edges
of his shiny reputation.
And some things PET did, looking at it 30 years after, will be
very easy to drag thru the mud.

Hmmm. I'd have to say that if Harper's policies are still screwing Canadians 40 years after their implementation, then he'd be the worst. As it is, Trudope is the worst by far, with Moosejaw and the Cretin fighting hard for second place.
One could say that Kim Campbell was the worst but she wasn't around long enough to fuck things up any worse than ol' Moosejaw already had.

With the caveat that the younger voters of today are more sensible than the ones of 1968. And that the majority of younger voters today aren't anything like the ones in Quebec, because if those ones are dominant then we'll get propelled towards an unending debacle at the hands of the NDP that would make the things Trudeau did to us look like an ice-cream sundae in comparison.
Don't care if the rest of you think I'm channelling Glenn Beck here. The NDP are insane and would destroy this country if they ever got into federal power.
