The people there seem to be quite content living in the Stone Age and I think we should leave them to it and get the fuck out.

Problem with that sentiment is that some are backward idiots but others actively try to move forward like some of those brave young women getting acid splashed in their faces when they go to school. Like any society its a tangled mess of good guys forced by circumstance to live amongst useless twats.

Having said that...having 3000 soldiers dropped into a desert to get blown the fuck up never made any kind of sense.

I disagree. Afghanistan is made up of majority of these idiots, as is Pakistan and the other islamic despotic nations in the area.

They don't want us there and really, we don't want to be there either.
Leave them to beat their women, measure each others beards and grow opium.

We will go in time anyway and they will carry on as if we were never there.

Bring the boys back home.

I got the phone call from my son early yesterday from the Kandahar AF hospital.
He was hospitalized with a broken nose, a concussion (his second since he's been there) and other assorted injuries.
He seemed pretty much "under the influence" and couldn't tell me anything about what had happened. I can't be 100% sure it was from this incident but I'm guessing it was.
I should get more news today and I'm not sure he was the one released.

RIP to those who paid with their lives. :(

...I totally agree EyeBrock but as you can guess, I'm a bit biased.

To loose a major though....
The engineers arent that big a trade its going to be hard to replace him for the rest of the tour. Also think of what the regiment is going to go through when they get back, they have many vacancies to fill.

Glad to hear your son is okay Raydan. But posting info like that about your son (that he may have ben involved in this incident) is not neccisarily the best plan.

Guy_Fawkes @ Mon Sep 07, 2009 10:32 am

I really dont think it matters, what possible information can the Taliban glean from an anonymous person saying he is pretty sure his son was injured in a IED strike.

The incident is over. It's in the media. What's the problem CM?

Sorry, really didn't know.
Can you tell me why?

R.I.P. :(

That list hurts my heart, not much brings tears to my eyes....that does

No threat to the mission or to Raydan. Worse that could happen is he recieves PMs or emails making statements about them getting his son next time.

Maybe I'm overly cautious. I've never heard of it happening over the mission, but it has happened to my family before because of where my stepfather works. Not the happiest email to recieve in the morning, even when you know it is untrue.

I think you are over reacting CM. I've been in jobs that require confidentiality for 29 years.
If a guy can call home it’s safe to talk about it.

What's the worst that can happen? The taliban might plant another IED? They are already digging a hole and the 105 shell is good to go.

He's not OK until he sets both feet on Canadian soil, TG.

Thanks.

First of all have you taken a poll? How do you know the majority of people there are idiots. If 50% of them are the women that are being beaten are they idiots for being beaten?

And secondly even if its a majority its probably no more or less than the majority of idiots that exist here but just happen to be living in a place with laws and rules that control their idiocy. Being lucky enough to live in a place thats had time to develop doesnt make you any more or less human.

But I probably agree(not sure how I feel about them staying) troops should come home and they probably should never have been there.

EyeBrock @ Mon Sep 07, 2009 12:01 pm

A poll in Afghanistan isn't really worth too much.

I've never been there, but I have very close friends out there at the moment. I'm going by accounts they bring back.

I think if you ask any vet who's been there they will tell you the same stories of stone age attitudes.

We can't change those who don't want to be changed, and as long as they bow to religion before social justice, our efforts are a waste of time.

Bring the boys back home.
