No, I'm jaded and cynical after having spent too many years introducing Muslims to Allah.

Folks may agree or not on the Iraq War or not. For me the Iraq war was caused by a big George Bush Lie, Afghanistan is another matter. That where Al-Quida and the Taliban are and that is a legitimate target. People may disagree with and that is okay.
What would get me upset( and possibly Bart) is if the demonstration that were held in the UK happed in The United States we would be more than a little upset. Reguardless of whether one agrees with either one of those wars they are our troops we owe it to them to welcome them home. If an immigrant group were to start waving signs signs calling them murders and the like we would get upset. Immigrant groups are welcome in my country and Canada but keep in mind that here our troops should be honored not insulted.

Totally agree. You want to protest either war, stand outside Bush's/Blair's house and yell murderer. The troops are just doing their job. But then you've got Fred Phelps. Homegrown and all.
Well the problem you see is that most of them are not immigrants, most of them born and bred in the UK. The immigrants don't make a peep in fear of screwing up their citizen applications

Bush responded to what was the consensus of the political thought of the Western world at the time. Given that Iraq had ignored UN sanctions for ten years at that point Iraq needed to be invaded just to put an end to the sanctions that were causing common Iraqis to starve to death. Had Al Gore won the election in 2000 it is highly likely that Gore would've made the same decision.
http://www.gwu.edu/~action/2004/gore/gore092302sp.htmlAl Gore Al Gore:
Iraq does pose a serious threat to the stability of the Persian Gulf and we should organize an international coalition to eliminate his access to weapons of mass destruction. Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to completely deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power. Moreover, no international law can prevent the United States from taking actions to protect its vital interests, when it is manifestly clear that there is a choice to be made between law and survival.
Clearly,
President Gore would've done the same thing as President Bush.

Were such a thing to happen in the USA it would not go well for those conducting the protest.
Bart I agree if that kind of demonstation were held here in The States, especially the south, those conducting the protest would not have a good evening.
I disagree with your Iraq and Al Gore theory and are you suggesting that in the worlds most democratic nation one is not allowed voice ones opinion ?
One is allowed to criticise and insults ones mother, religon, language, culture, the president and just about everything else sacred or not to someone. But you can't boo the soldiers ?

Al Gore spoke openly about his inclination to support the invasion prior to the invasion. No one stopped him from speaking so I'm a little unclear on your point.

Sure you can boo the soldiers. You can call them murderers and all sorts of things. We have freedom of speech and such things are perfectly legal.
But don't be surprised if while saying such things you find someone's boot so far up your tailpipe that it's tickling your tonsils and then don't be surprised if no one cares when you cry about it.
As for someone else's assertion that you'd be treated more harshly in the south than in the north of the USA there's this:
While it is legal in the USA to burn a US flag in the city of Boston if someone assaults you while you are burning a US flag the maximum penalty they will face for such an assault is a $1 fine. I daresay that the Bstonians would be similarly inclined to turn a blind eye to anyone kicking the crap out of people insulting soldiers returning home from overseas.

I was actually anti Afghanistan war at first, but the more I looked around and the more I realized that the fools that call themselves the Taliban need to be quashed and gotten rid of.
But it is flustrating to see that its been so long and still the situatrion hasn't gotten any better after all these years, if not worse.
As for the protesters arn't they allowed to exercise their freedom of expression ? as long as they were peacefull I dont see where the problem is or its that right only reserved for the non muslims ?
Soldiers returning from Vietnam were welcomed with similar welcoming parties.
Gangs of Pakistanis were chanting "Crusader murderers" to the US Army soldiers coming home?

Many will be immigrants and others will be UK citizens in name only, living in so called cultural enclaves, keeping their women veiled and only socialising with other Pakistanis and despising British culture.
They will bring some bride or groom over from some shit-hole village in Pakistan to marry their UK born kids and try their best to keep out of any part of the mainstream of British society, screaming ‘racism’ at every opportunity they can.
I would have thrown my shoes at them.

My point of the a more harsh treatment from the South (At least the Old South, my Grandmother's Mountain Virginia types) is that they tend to have a lot more firearms down there legal and Illegal and there is a Southern institution that used to ride at night expressing their freedom of speech
in a more direct manner. They wouldn't be kicking the crap out of them, they would be kicking the chair on that standing on under a tree. At the very least the leather whips they usually carry would be put to good use. They tend to be less politically correct down there.
