Majority of Canadians support PSAC demands for wage premiums, work from home rights: survey
$1:
The survey found that political affiliation had the most impact on support for PSAC members’ demands. Those who said they supported the Conservative Party in 2021 are “overwhelmingly opposed to four of the five demands, though a slim majority (52 per cent) support union calls for wage premiums,” Angus Reid said.
No shock there.

Perhaps. But it is interesting that the Conservative party has not said specifically where they stand.
$1:
Despite a long history advocating unconstitutional anti-worker laws, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has lately been railing against sky-rocketing inflation in an attempt to reinvent himself as a friend of “working-class people.”
“Workers have every right to demand raises for soaring food, homes and fuel prices,” Poilievre tweeted last fall.
That also happens to be a core issue for striking public servants represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada, who are now trying to bring wages back in line with reality — federal workers already earned 5.8% below average even as inflation reached 6.8% last year.
Yet on a political panel show Wednesday night, Poilievre’s Treasury Board critic struggled when asked if Poilievre supports giving workers a raise.
Asked by CTV Power Play host Vassy Kapelos if Poilievre’s Conservatives “support PSAC’s position that they would like to see a 13.5% raise over three years” to keep pace with “the rate of inflation,” Conservative MP Stephanie Kusie refused to answer.
“I’m not going to comment on hypotheticals,” Kusie replied. “This rests on Justin Trudeau and his incompetent government.”

I have tried three times to file my taxes, and got an error each time.
'No excuse to miss the deadline' my ass.

Put it in an envelope and mail it... you can still do that.
I had to mail 5 out of 6 returns I did this year, only my own would e-file

I'm trying to log on to the CRA to get my T-slips. Can't do shit till I get them.
Once I have them, Turbotax will be ready to file in 3 seconds.

Why were your t4s not mailed to you or otherwise provided back before the end of February?

The company I work for doesn't do that. If you want a paper copy, you have to go into this little obscure part of the HR site and hit a little checkmark. Before December. Every year. Otherwise, you get a digital copy. Same with all my investments. Digital, log on to get a copy.
And it's really easy getting them from the CRA, because every company has to submit them anyhow. Might as well operate on the information they already have. They are just too lazy to submit the taxes themselves, like the rest of the G5 do already. I just didn't anticipate a strike in the middle of tax season.

Government submits new offer to striking federal union
$1:
Details of the offer have not been released but it covers the larger Treasury Board group of about 120,000 workers. Talks are ongoing for the Canada Revenue Agency group of more than 35,000 workers, the union said in an email.
In a statement, the office of Treasury Board President Mona Fortier called the offer "comprehensive."
A union spokesperson told CBC the two sides are talking Friday and there are plans to bargain through the weekend.
In an email, PSAC also said it wouldn't comment until further notice and it hopes to continue bargaining over the weekend.
At least they are talking.

I had to log into the CRA site multiple times today because I kept logging out (thought I had everything I needed) and everything worked fine. It took me a few hours to go through everything, but I did it.
Everything worked without a hitch-I've had more technical problems with privately owned news sites.
Regarding the strike, I doubt the union will get much sympathy from most of the public, especially with the allegations about voting irregularity and the low turnout for the strike vote. The optics are terrible, especially during tax season.

I managed to end-run the software. I logged on to CRA through a partner site, my Alberta Digital ID. If you log on through a bank partner, you have to verify with your SIN. If you use MADI, it goes through.
Did my taxes in about 10 minutes.

It wasn't the software's fault. It was my fault because I kept logging out of the system because I don't like leaving too many tabs open at once and had to log back in every time I realized I wanted something else (my RRSP deduction limit, for instance).
When I say " a couple of hours", that was me double-checking to make sure I had all my receipts, that I had the right amount of non-employment income (through my local op-ed writings) and so forth. Had nothing to do with the software.
