I don't understand how someone can do that to another human being let alone their own mother!?! *sigh*
you need to understand that in india women are most definitely 2nd class citizens..in fact lots of girls are killed at birth if the family has an insufficient dowry

when you speak about treating women in traditional societies, you should always determine what stratum of women you imply, cause this is the core factor for indentifying their rights and position! and i can assure you, that the position of a newborn daughter is incomparable to the position of a grandmother or say mother-in-law, how ever wrong or barbaric it may appear to us! what is described in the article is absolutely not typical for a traditional society.
i can only repeat Snork's exlamation...

I happen to have 'somewhat of an inside track' on the India society and I CAN ASSURE YOU that this is NOT typical behavior. The daughter and grandsons WILL be severely punished. Likely to involve a public flogging!
That IS typical punishment for crimes against family and elders in general.
That is beyond disgusting. Its sick. I just can not fathom ever doing something like this to my mother. Snorkmaiden .... maybe
but never my mother.
