Read about the foreign owned debt awhile ago.

We Canadians actually own a nice chunk of Uncle Sam. Not as big as I PERSONALLY would love to see..... But I'm fine with it....

Not enogh to create any conspiricies against us, eh, fellow Canucks? *wink wink nudge nudge the meeting is at 3 AM knock 4 times poke poke*

Let's see.... According to The US Treasury, we own 50 Billion of the Debt. More then double then what we owned a year ago. Japan, on the other hand..... 640 Billion. Damn.

Well, as of September, anyway.

Well America....

The world now owns more of you then you do.

Guess I wont mention how many American energy outfits are pumping American dollars into Alberta's energy industry makeing it one of the strongest in the world.

That was redundent. Anyway.

I know America basically owns Canada, and I'm, of course, not happy about it.

5 outfits I worked for last year in Alberta were American. Someone's gotta throw in money to drill hole's. The old liberal govt didnt exactly make it easy for Canadians to make some money off their investments.

Funny but Mr.C live's in Medicine hat,a town that only survive's because of the natural gas.

Yep yep, "The Gas City",

I hate it here, :D

And I don't care what the Liberals did, I hate them too. The government sucks. They are really all lying bastards who just abuse power. Why? "For two reasons. 1, Because you already elected them, and 2, because you ALREADY ELECTED THEM!". Honest politicians don't exist.

Ya,I'd like to get you a job on the rigs for a week, see if you could take it then you might appreciate what made
Alberta the province that it is. Dont think so though, think you would wimp out the first day.

Ih. Congrats, oil is great, whatever. I don't care what made Alberta great. I don't care what made British Columbia, or Newfoundland, or New Brunswick great either.

Infact, yes, I probably would "wimp out" on the first day. I am definitly not Oil Rig material. That's a big "NONO".

It'd be like expecting a child to kick a Pro-Wrestlers ass. You just don't imagine me on an oil rig, I'd die.

I'm sure you'll get enough workers from my class though. To bad oil won't create appeaciation for the country...

Man, if all of the countries asked America to pay them back, global economic collapse will happen. Yeesh...

China's laughing in its rice right now. It owns huge portions of American debt and is continuing to buy American companies like they're going out of style. If you still think America is the world's economic superpower, you're naive.

Pumping money into Alberta because we are selling (out) our resources for pennies on the dollar. Then pumping OUR oil out of Alberta (and Canada) for refining and/or upgrading (where the real money is) in the U.S. Guess it's what we should have have expected from the same crowd that sold-out OUR telephone company (one of the most profitable and advanced at the time), sold-out OUR airline (again, VERY profitable) to an airline that was perennially mismanaged (and ultimately went tits-up), PAID several companies to take-over our PROFITABLE PUBLIC utilities, and generally has sold Alberta down the river at every opportunity.

Let's face it, BigOil would have needed very little incentive to increase it's investment in our energy industry. We're very close to the U.S. market and in a world that is increasingly hostile to the U.S., we're a warm, safe place to park your investment dollars. When oil was trading for $20/bbl it made some sense to offer incentives to increase investment (despite that Syncrude and Suncor were already able to put their product in the pipeline for between $16 - $19/bbl). To let them have it for $1/bbl was criminal and to let them continue to steal it at that price while the world price hovers around $60/bbl tells me that the PC's have no interest in doing what's good (or right) for Alberta.

Guess that explains why I tore up my PC membership in the middle of their leadership campaign and have since mailed-in my Socred membership form (I don't agree with a lot of their platform, but at least they haven't sold their soul to big business or sold Alberta to the highest bidder).

There is a problem with your arguement. Under Canadian law, the oil belongs to land owners above it, not you. The US hasn't built a refinery since the 70s, so it isn't like US companies trying to make any attempt in controlling the market from the US. Again, it's not your telephone company, it's the investor's who risked their money and put money in the company, not you. The same goes for your airlines. The guys who sold their shares, made money. The idiots who mismanaged it, they lost money. I don't see how that is the problem if US idiots lost money and gave it to smart Canadians.

Another thing is that America owns alot of foreign debt as well. Heck every country practically owes every other country something. Though the US is by far on the borrowing side. And the fact that half of the debt is owned by foreigners shows that the propping up the dollar for cheap exports isn't gonna last too long.
