Interesting?.... Crap to me. If you come to Canada to live, you live by the laws of this land, not some tribal or religious law from elsewhere in the world. You want to live by those laws, stay where those laws come from.

Agree as well. This is something that should be explained right away when immigrants begin to apply for citizenship.

"We have a system of laws that are derived from a secular standpoint, and as such, your religions laws will be trumped by our laws. If you are going to have a problem with that, then you have come to the wrong country."

I meant Interesting as in it was an interesting read. This is our country, that you are coming to. A certain amount of accomodation is order, but we shouldn't have to bend over backwards for some twisted piece of crap from the "old country". We have Canadian laws, not those from 1288...

Honor killings have taken place in Canada Kate, as well as Acid burnings in the name of honour of course.

This female was practicing Sharia Law, or she would of divorced him under Canadian Family Law. How many Muslim women are being forced to practice Sharia Law in Canada? It's not a legal law in Canada but yet they still practice it. This scare me, did she not know she had rights in Canada, did she know that she is equal in the eyes of "Our" laws. Did she know that in Canada men don't "Own" their children when they reach the age of Five? If she didn't know we have laws to protect her, Immigration is not doing it's job. Muslim women have equal rights afforded to them under our Charter of Rights and Freedoms perhaps it's time someone informed them they don't have to live under an illegal law such as Sharia Law, Hindu Tribal Law and Somalian Law.

   

For sure. I thought that sort of thing would covered in citizenship classes (if they even have those anymore). And if they don't, they should be.

   

I really feel for this woman, she wants to go home to Lebanon for family support but the moment she steps onto Lebanon soil his family (Under Sharia Law) can take her kids from her. She is in an awful position, why can't a Imam just grant her a Muslim Divorce and save this woman from such heartache. Yet the Muslim community stays silent and unhelpful. She's doomed, I'd like to see an organization take her underground and help her start again in Canada with support and aide. When this man gets out of prison he's going to come after in Canada or Lebanon. Under Sharia Law he committed no crime, in fact he would of dropped her and the infant off at a hospital and then retrieved her so he could stab her again anytime he wishes. It makes me ill thinking of what he can do to her from prison. Canadian Laws need adjusting to protect these women, they are tought from birth that they are lesser beings and that they must obey "Men". Canada allows this to happen in 2008, that is scary.
