So don't worry unless it happens. Will you change your name to Pollyanna?

Is that the best you've got? Pollyanna, really. :P

What the fuck are you 12 years old? You continually attempt to insult people when you're arguments and logic fail but just like your position on most everything it's nothing more gibberish.

Irony deficient, are we? Maybe up the Geritrol.

So your chicken little comment was incisive, but pollyanna is an insult?

Irony my ass, your claim that I would have to change my name to HOG in the event of fuel spill that affects Victoria, was meant as a compliment I suppose?

Good to know. ROTFL

Heart attack Old Guy. The thing that makes is ironic is that I didn't throw a little shit fit because you insulted me. Just took it as the usual.

My logic didn't fail - a poor response to a minor spill used as being indicative of the response for a major spill is entirely logical. How will they know if the spill is major or minor unless they respond?

But your logic that it's OK to have a slow response time because it wasn't immediately clear what the substance was is very unSpockian. Let's pick our ass while we figure out what this stuff is, it's probably nothing? Wouldn't it make sense to respond as if the spill is dangerous, as it was in this case. If it turns out to be no more tears shampoo later, better chicken little than pollyanna.

14 barrels of oil 8O sorry this whole thing is ridiculous.

You base that on your extensive experience with marine spills?

herbie @ Sat Apr 11, 2015 9:51 pm

Industry Minister James Moore said the cleanup of 80% of the spill in 36 hours was "Impressive".
Lucky they closed the Kits base. It might have been "too goddam good". The closure saved enough money to drop 3 more bombs on Syria though.

Yep Red Deer River 06/07/2012, 3000 barrels of sour crude, 8 different oil company spill teams dispatched in 1hr and and 17 minutes and a helicopter in the air. No one sitting around waiting for the talking heads to tell them what to do.

The oil ran into Glenifer Lake behind the Dickson Dam, the lake was closed down for 3 weeks and cleaned up in time for the Canada Day long weekend. Some of you useless fuckers probably sit on the shitter until the government tells you its OK to wipe your ass.

andyt @ Sat Apr 11, 2015 10:32 pm

wonder just how clean that lake is, what with Exxon Valdez oil still being found under rocks on the Alaska coast these decades on. usual estimate is that 15% of oil that gets on land can actually be cleaned up - at most.

As for people sitting around, that is exactly the issue here - the people responsible didn't act fast enough because the system isn't set up for it.

Yup no need to find out the facts just go off half cocked and then get crucified for spending money before the cause and substance were even known.

The problem is that some people are claiming that the response to the spill was slow while others are claiming it was perfectly fine. So on one side we have some experts and analysts who have said the response was perfectly normal and those would be the Federal Government, independent Maritime Lawyers and the Coast Guard.

But, on the other side of the coin you have. The Provincial Liberal Government, the former NDP MLA Mayor of Vancouver, the future greenest city in the world, the Maritime Seafarers Union and the former Commander of the closed Kitsilano Coast Guard base saying it wasn't.

Do you see a pattern here because, I certainly do?

Maybe the biggest problem is politics not environmental especially when people perceive everything that happens to be part of a giant conspiracy or, absolutely no problem at all based solely on their political views. Because when that starts happening their opinions become worthless which, is why I said this has become nothing more than an excuse for everyone to make political hay.

The response was adequate but, not great and the information chain definitely needs alot of work. But, the biggest thing that should come out of this exercise is, that anyone with a vested political interest in the outcome of things like this should be excluded from giving their uninformed, semi informed, sometimes irrational and completely politically motivated sound bytes to, any news media or the public.

BTW. If I was to drink an dietary supplement it'd probably be ensure and not Geritol because, Geritol is so 1960's. [B-o]

Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to play the "Glad Game" ROTFL

Your role in that was what? Flicking channels and you saw it on TV? There's a lot in apples in your apples and oranges comparison, by the way.

Slow down there...this is at the emotive half story response stage. Facts and follow up need not apply.

"World class response." Yup. Third-world class maybe.

ALTA-Redneck's gonna drink himself a cup of sour crude just to show everyone how harmless it is!

Nope. James Moore told us this was an excellent response so they won't do anything different next time. You believe James Moore, don't you? He's a politician after all.

Yeah 80% recovery? 1/2 liter of oil left in the harbour. Sheesh. And that was coming from the Coast Guard guy too. They're all reading media lines from the same source. Even the CCG grunts are shaking their heads.
