PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9:
Quebec has already proven in the past that they can force the francophonization of trademarked and copyrighted names.
The precendent has already been set.

That's only because the other retailers didn't bother fighting it for what ever reason. It could of been for monetary reason (cheaper just to change a few signs than go to court)or maybe they we're sympathetic towards Quebec language laws, and didn't mind they had to alter their trademarks in order to operate or they didn't want the "mauvaise" presse.

However the fact still remains that federal acts have precedence over provincial laws for good reason. I think the Canadian head offices of Wallmart, Costco have figured this out already. That's why their legal team is taking the Quebec government to court, because A) they know they're right and B)money isn't a concern to fight them over it because the benefits of winning is worth it.

The retailers include some of the biggest brand names in North America — Walmart, Best Buy and Costco. Their lawyers are expected in Quebec Superior Court on Thursday.

Does anyone have any news regarding today's Quebec Superior Court appearance?

All reports indicate the lawyers made more money.

I haven't heard anything on the news about this case. I'll bet that the language police backed down since no laws were broken. This was a joke to begin with. You have an agency trying to enforce laws that don't even exist (registered trademarks and brand names are exempt from the language laws). This makes the agency look incompetent to say the least.

Perhaps if the people of Quebec had a championship team to cheer for like Toronto does with the Argonauts then perhaps they would be able to bask in sweet victory rather than focus on BS. But they don't. That's why Toronto rules. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS!
