"I do a lot of crying in this job. I'll bet I've shed more tears than you can count, as president. I'll shed some tomorrow."
this cock sucker should shed one tear for every American HE sent to die for a useless cause.
I don't care to get an Iraq thread going, but had Bush not gone into Iraq when he did the Democrats who voted for and agitated for the war would've hammered him for it in 2004.
Good or bad on Iraq (please bear in mind I've been there, too) Hussein is gone and the ongoing threat that he was to his neighbors is gone.
Iraq is a mess, I agree, and I'd be fine with our leaving tomorrow. But Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Kurdistan, and even Iran are safer with Hussein dead and gone.
That much has been accomplished.

The Hussein threat was replaced by Al Qaeda and the open tribal warfare between the secs that is a war by proxy between Iran and Saudi Arabia over regional dominance. It has had the effect of decentralizing the threat but has strengthen Iran's hand in the process. Taking out one enemy only to make the rest even bigger has been the overall effect.
I have to agree with you there Bart. I think its time that America pulled out and let the new government try and run their country.

Unfotunately the new government, isn't going to be running the country. Let's face facts here, the new powerbroker in the Middle East is the lunatic fringe running Iran and they have no intention of letting a democratic government establish itself in Iraq.
It's quite apparent that they are willing to supply aid and arms to their sect of Muslims in order to achieve their goal of destabilizing Iraq to the point of Iranian dominance in the country.
While I agree that removing Saddam was probably beneficial to "some" of his neighbour, the reality is that it created a civil war that, if the Americans withdraw, is going to leave a power vaccum, with the Iranians comming out the winners.

The guy running Iran is a nutbag with a fasciantion with the end times akin to Pat Robertson's (yes, I think Pat would be equally dangerous if he had any actual power) but the Iranians are not nearly as nutty as the Arabs and they do provide some stability to the region.
Give it a little time and the passing of the generation of Iranians who were in the 1979 revolution and I think Iran will be a Western power again.
Unlike my view of the Arabs, I do not see the Iranians as permanent enemies.

It is only a useless cause depending on what side of the economic fence you are sitting on.

The problem as I see it is the situation has been a catalyst for the current leadership in Iran and now, just like the US was stuck with Bush after 9/11, are stuck with these zealots who use religion as a political prop. Getting rid of them will require either direct confrontation or a complete withdraw from the region to scale down tensions. Neither option is all that tenable a rock and a hard place really.
He cries?
Awww, look at the poor wittle sensitive American tyrant monster... So cute!
Fuck you, Bush.

That is why they reached a couple arms deals with Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Bad as Iraq seems now, I believe the Sunnis, Shiites will have had enough of the fighting and work together for Iraq's Future..
Let us not forget the Iraqis had years and years of living under a brutal dictatorship, in which during that time the bad blood between the Sunnis and Shities just exploded after Saddam's fall..
The fact now the Sunnis are working with the U.S. Military to battle Al Qaeda is hopefully a sign of better things to come, only time will tell..
