Good thing we'll still be paying for their lawyers...and their "everything else" for the next however many years.

Common sense?
Is it common sense to think someone with an outstanding warrant for a criminal offense is going to tell you when they know it disqualifies them?
Cuz that's what the law IS.

That ain't common sense at all. It's another MAKE IT LOOK LIKE WE'RE TOUGH ON CRIME bullshit bill. El Gordo's learning from Harper. Distract all questions with statements and bills about crime.

An opinion here but those who won't qualify for welfare are those with serious criminal issues. Wouldn't cutting them off welfare just cause them to commit more crimes to sustain themselves? If they are a murderer, a drug dealer or another harsh person, they couldn't care about giving themselves up in the first place.

The free travel arrangements I'll accept but I doubt many will take the government up on their offer.

In short, this is just another waste of time and shouldn't be bothered with in the first place.

I agree. Nobody is going to say he is wanted elsewhere. If they have been charged and on remand they don't need welfare. If they are bailed the same rules should apply to them as everyone else. There might be a wife and kids involved.

You do know how fucked up the whole welfare thing is these days?
People who should get it are routinely denied. They don't know how to play the system. Those who do play it well, milk it.
I've seen guys who bragged about overtime and were warned six months in advance of a month long mill shutdown pull up in front of the Welfare office in an F350 4x4 camper, all the kids inside and towing a 20 ft boat... who where SHOCKED when welfare didn't cut them a cheque to go on holidays.
Had welfare guys slap a form on my counter and tell me I HAD TO sign it, it was a form to show they'd applied for a job and got turned down.
Told a disintegrating disabled guy they wouldn't give him $80 for fenders on his electric wheelchair so he wouldn't arrive muddy, he should carry a plastic bag and a change of clothes for when he got to where he was going. Had no legs and one arm? How was he supposed to get changed? And the social worker was the person who derided him for daring to show up for her interview with his clothes muddy.
A girl with 4 kids all by different fathers living with another guy who collected 'rent' and welfare sent Christmas baskets and paid 'stress holidays' for her in a Motel with paid sittes to watch the kids.
Last week a woman I know was abandoned with 2 toddlers, the bank cleaned out and no rent paid. Welfare told her she wasn't eligible. She made $9,000 last year according to her tax return (total BS disqualification reason). She'd have to re-apply in November.
A stepkid who's raising 2 kids, on welfare for nine goddam years, no school, no courses, tried maybe 3 jobs and got fired from all in under a month. Nine goddam years. Can't cut her off cuz of kids, no goddam alternate plan for people like her. Been to court dozens of times over visitations and no goddam Judge looked and saw "Whoops, we seem to have forgot to MAKE THE FATHER pay for dick shit...."
