The Central Valley isn't a desert.

Regardless, the problem for years has been the issue of growing crops that need significant water in desert areas. The Central Valley isn't the only place in the west that has orchards. There are almond tree orchards in California in some of the naturally drier areas that are ripping out thousands and thousands of their trees because of the huge water requirements per tree. On top of that, they are actually growing rice in one of the California deserts, or trying to at this point.

There is another reason there's a "water shortage", if you read the article.
41% of the water supply in/to California goes to farming. 9% is consumed in urban use. That leaves 50%, which is being smartly used to keep salmon streams and rivers flowing, as well as making sure the wetlands stay wet.
They could readily supply all the water the farms need for this year but then they potentially risk losing even more wetlands than they already have, as well as their salmon spawning grounds.

Looks like we might have to get us some guns to protect ourselves.

I had to laugh the other day, because some news item about this idiot who was illegally selling parts to convert guns to automatic got caught. (stupid criminals! duhhh!) They added to the article that he had 'over 1000 rounds of ammo' and I laughed and thought . . . that's it? ;)

It's nothing to so with them. Buying bullets in cases of 1000 is cheaper than in packages of 12 or 50. ;) Bulk discounts! And bullets don't really have a shelf life, so 1000 rounds of .22 or 12 gauge means many, many trips to the target range.

Same with loading your own, to buy lead (or alternatives), cartridges, powder and caps you can't just get 5 or 10 or 50. You have to get 100 or 500 or 1000.

To this day most of my showers are the same as when I was on ship. 30 seconds to wet down, and the water goes off. Lather and scrub for as long as I like, and the water comes back on for 1 and 1/2 minutes to rinse off. 95% of the showers I have are like this.

Do you still dobey your clothes in a bucket with a plunger?
