My highschool basketball team got our asses handed to us in a couple games, the worst one being around 80-20. That team exposed a lot of the holes we had in our game, so we used that to work on the errors we made. The next time we played against them in a tournament, we only lost 70-60 or something along those lines.

Winning by a large margin isn't a problem. It's when you start taunting the other team and acting like a bunch of asses that it becomes unacceptable.

besides, if point difference is an issue, you need everything you can get.

If the coach can go from 2-19, all the way up to Final Four,
he's damn good and can get max performance from players.

And he gets critisized for it [huh]

I play floor hockey wiht the five year olds on Sunday. There's always a few grown ups and bigger kids in the game. You'd be surprised how mnay grown up and big kids won't let the kids have the ball. They seem incapable of a lesser level of play. I don't mind the big kids so much, but I shouldn't have to yell at the grown ups and remind them the game is for the kids. Sheesh.

Wait a sec...A sportsteam is beat (HUGE), but because the number were apart so far, they won? They should have called it a win sooner? :?

I don't get this. A game is a game is a game, you win or loose at the end of the game...

Damn, I'm confuzzled...

I agree it's like the NHL ,they award the losing team a point for losing in a shut out..what the hell is this cry baby socialist hockey?

As for running up the score, we should ask any Oilers fans about the game last night - maybe MacTavish should have asked the refs to stop the game...

What, didn't you watch the game? The fans were yelling for 10 when it was 9-1 Buffalo.

I'm glad SOMEONE found the humour in that game. I know it wasn't me.

Calling kids with dyslexia and other learning difficulties "the disabled" throws a slant on the story.

R=UP

While Dyslexia is a 'disability', it has nothing to do with this game or their ability to play it.

Political Correctness gone off the deep end.

Actually, I'm reminded of a great quote by former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien: "You cannot exercise your power to the point of humiliation for the others."

Is not being labelled as 'disabled' for a learning disability on par with colour blindness also humiliating? Is using that learning disability as an excuse for poor performance also not humiliating?

Sure, but isn't it humiliating in its own right to be granted a "win" for such a huge loss?

Oh, I'd say so. Bad idea.

Comforting Parent: Well it's not all bad. Look here--you won one game.
Student: Yeah, about that...

I've been on both sides of the coin at various times over 30 years of playing hockey and it sucks to be beaten that badly, but,,,.

What is more embarrassing, losing badly against a team that is much better or losing by a little to that team knowing they are putting no effort into their play?

As for running the score up, as long as you don't gloat or start trash talking I don't see an issue with it. If people don't like it we can stop keeping score and call every game a tie so nobodies feelings get hurt.
