What do you believe would happen if you raised corporate tax rates instead of lowering them? What would you offer to corporations as an incentive to stay with their jobs in Canada vice moving them elsewhere that is more friendly to business profits?

Nobody ever suggested to raise corporate taxes. Just don't cut them while we're borrowing money to pay the bills. It's extremely simple to anyone who isn't a Conservative hack.

We're always borrowing money to pay the bills and both the Liberals and Conservatives have been lowering taxes while our debt rises.

The Libs lowered taxes after they balanced the books, not before.

Aaa...It is all Martin's fault and his rapacious ways stripping all those billions out of EI to help balance the budget and pay down the debt 95 to 05. Just think of the gold mine there would be if it had of been left alone, no EI increases long into the future.

Curtman Curtman:

So they get a big tax break, and a small increase in EI premiums. We just get the shaft.

"We" are employed by these corporations by the hundreds of thousands.

"We" benefit when corporations do well, as our Government, particularly our CPP, invests heavily in them.

God you left-tards just don't get it.

Ok, so can Harper cut the shit out of health care and wipe out the EI funds to balance the books....then cut taxes to make you happy?

Of course not....when Liberals do it...it's OK though.

Why would we need to lower our tax rate to bring in new business or increased investment? You plan for tomorrow....you don't cut off your nose in spite of your face.

You conservabots seem to be the ones who are confused about these things. When the government takes more of my pay, and the pay stays the same there's very little benefit. Maybe some day my RRSP would do better, but it would also do better if the government left me with some more money to contribute. So would the corporations.

Why would we need to if our corporate tax rate is already the lowest in the G8, and our personal income tax rates among the highest? It's a ridiculous argument that you are making.

At least it's an increase that's going to finance an existing program that assists hundreds of thousands of people at any given time.

Concur. And let us not forget that it was then-finance minister Paul Martin that pillaged EI and whatnot to balace the budget back in the day. Had he nt done that, it's possible that a portion of this mess could have been avoided.

As for Bob Rae.....he hasn't been relevant since he almost ruined Ontario. He can talk about issues like this until he's blue in the face, but no one will care what he says one way or another. Sorry Bob, you're best before date came and went a long time ago.

Cancel oil subsidies, cancel corporate tax breaks. It's the same situation we were in prior to the election and they haven't come up with any ideas other than raising taxes on the working poor.

Right. So stop being the working poor Curtman. Do a better job improving yourself other than protesting to people on the forums who generally don't care much about your personal problems.

I don't consider myself poor. I don't really have many personal problems at the moment either, life is very good. Thanks for asking though.

Life should be very good with a new one on the way. Hence the curiosity for the need to flog your agendas and your issues onto a generally uncaring audience.

I s'pose maybe you consider this a form of social activism and maybe you can feel good about your efforts to influence change in your rather ham fisted way.

I don't really have an agenda per se. It's more of a general disgust with the way things are in Ottawa with respect to the way things were in the recent past.

It's more of an effort to understand the "other side" than influencing change here. It's hard to find people that agree with the conservative agenda until I come here.

Try knowing what you're talking about.

I wanted to check up on your claim, that our "personal income tax rates among the highest".

Of the G8 countries, our tax rate is 2nd lowest. The only Country with a lower personal income tax rate is Japan.

Secondly, we have a double-dip Corporate tax structure, so the federal rate may be 16.5% but that number could jump to ~31% depending on which Province you operate in.

Really? Interesting. For a guy trying to understand the 'other side' you make a lot of noise of agenda pushing and not a lot of listening.

The government is increasing them starting Jan. 1, 2012, with the average increase costing employees and employers $306 a year.

The tax and spend Tories are at it again. I guess you need to be a corporation to get a break these days.

Yep, no matter what government is in charge. You MAY want to note that the gov't in Ontario has given corporate tax breaks of 2-4%, while increasing taxes on ALL consumer goods and services so they can subsidize mega-global corporations like Samsung.
Thank God those "tax and spend" Tories aren't in charge of the province.

Edit* As for Rae's whiney bitchery, that fucking idiot couldn't run an electric train set, let alone a province or nation.
