Agreed. Canada was not a full blown socialist country. But we seasoned democracy with some socialist legislation, and were better off for it. And I`d like to see Canada move further leftward. We definitely need counterweights to the over-imposing capitalist forces that wish to enslave the majority of working class people.

I believe the road to a better society will begin with socialism. Ideas like the ones presented by the Greens, NDP and CAP can initiate the journey but it can't end there.
I was at a very interesting NDP get together this evening, wonderful to be free to discuss without worry of offending anyone. Every one was committed to Canada, and to Alberta within Canada!
One young person about 13 yrs perhaps younger, asked me what is a democrat? So I said, well it is a person who practices and believes in democracy. So she said well what is democracy? I said, it is a government by the people and for the people, basically we run the country in the best interest of all. She said well I had a teacher who said the last time there was any democracy was during a revolution in the 1800's. I had to agree, another guest made a comment, that what we have in Canada is an elected dictatorship. Then the young person started saying well I understand that even if one party gets most of the popular vote, they still might not form the government, what is with that? I admitted it was crazy and that we are trying to fix it, that is what proportional representation is about.
The young person said, why can't you adults get this figured out it only makes sense. Maybe you should ask a kid to fix it! I was lost for words. She was a very well informed young person and she is right, what is wrong with the adults?

If I stand for my country today...will my country be here to stand for me tomorrow?

This kid is right on the money !!
I'm glad that kids that young are already interested in politics. That is a great sign !

I think this sould be the next big campaign to hit hard, fast and with major leaflet campaign (quote) This might solve a lot of societies ills in one fell swoop. Check out this post by Bob Hinkley - I believe he's a corporate lawyer. http://www.thecorporation.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=261

Democracy is that not where 51% of the voters force the other 49% to obey they're will. Not a good system . There is a system that works but you will not give it a chance. Think about that.
