"WTF is wrong with criticizing in a democracy? You are such whiners."
Considering you call yourself a whiner I don't know where to start...
And by your words it's okay for Conservatives to criticize but not the rest of us.
What have the Conservatives done so far that will stand the test of time? Nothing. They have shown themselves to be self-serving liars of the highest order though. Standing up for Canada by signing a lopsided softwood deal, downing the Kelowna Accord, increasing taxes on the poorest Canadians, and edging us closer to the United States hardly qualifies as standing up for Canada. Then there was all their commotion about ethics and morality in politics. Then they sign up Emerson and place unelected people into positions of power. Then to top that they sign onto a new NORAD deal in secret and allow the opposition to find out when the US media starts reporting on it.
Yeah Perturbed, we best all be quiet and allow these miscreants to 'improve' Canada. Maybe you would like us all to go to our designated 'free speech' zone for now on lest we be whiners?
If forced to pick between a right-wing sellout and an inept quasi right-wing Liberal the choice is rather easy.

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.
The Cons are also talking of trying to re-write the electoral financing rules so that corporations cannot give as much or at all. That would hurt the Liberals the most. Of course the Cons are not doing it to improve our electoral system, they are doing it further their own agenda. Why do you think they will not entertain the idea of any form of pro-rep-gov - especially when they are one of the parties that stand to gain the most from it? It's not about improving anything - it's about power and nothing drives hard core right-wingers more than the concentration of power.

It's a strategy, BC Mary. The Conservatives are most likely to fall on the next budget, not the one currently being debated. The timing of the Liberal leadership campaign is based on having a debate of ideas that brings in a new leader showing that the party has really changed. They get almost a year of press, then have their convention just in time to take advantage of maximum momentum before bringing the Conservatives down and heading into a new election. Whether they've actually changed or not (I doubt they will) is immaterial, the Liberals are pretty good at election strategy.
The Liberal spinners talk about 1968 a lot. That's the scenario they are trying to induce with this big race. They've also mentioned Trudeau's "elect me and I'll resign" gambit when Clark's government fell, so the unlikely possibility of a snap election is at least partially covered.
Will the strategy work? We won't know until it happens.
There are provincial elections in Quebec and Ontario that could affect when the other parties want to go to the polls. The Bloc has to differentiate itself from the Conservatives at some point though, and the PQ would like to use that to pound on Charest.
It also gives Harper time to hang himself. He's been downplaying the environment, but he has to release some sort of plan in the fall. Tax increases will show up in people's minds next April. Afghanistan is becoming an issue and Harper has made it his war. Conservative backbenchers are starting to say stupid things in front of microphones.
In the meantime, the Liberals spend an inordinate amount of time attacking the NDP because it certainly isn't lost on them that the new NDP seats came at the expense of Liberals.
