Phil Donahue's Body of War explores pain of returning war vets

Though long in the public eye as a pioneer of the talk-show genre, Phil Donahue described making his first film as"a hugely exciting and frightening experience."

In an interview Tuesdaywith CBC Radio's Jian Ghomeshi, Donahue said:"This is all new to me. In many ways, I'm feeling my way along the wall of a dark hallway."

Donahue, known for his eponymous talk show, is at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting his documentary Body of War, about Iraq war veteran Tomas Young. The 27-year-old, who enlisted for the war two days after the Sept. 11, 2001,attacks, was shot and paralyzed after being deployed to Iraq. Young is now paralyzed from the chest down.

The documentary, which Donahue co-directs with Ellen Spiro, follows a year in Young's life. He is shown lobbying Washington politicians, interviewed by Mike Wallace for 60 Minutes, meeting other war protesters like Cindy Sheehan and struggling with his first year of marriage.

Hopefully he'll talk about the cancellation of his show when he refused to be pro-war and tow the party line.

You misspelled his name, btw. Had to read the article to see if there really was such a person as Phil Donahoe or not.
