If it is the position of the leaders of Iraq that Saddam's call for the unifying of the Shiia, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians of Iraq to drive out the occupying forces is ill-conceived then let them state that to their people clearly with much reasoning (there have been suggestions that democracy should have free and open debate). Saddam speaking to the people hardly seems like a reason to bar the media from the proceedings. If it is true that which we have been told (that Saddam Hussein was hated among his people and was only the leader through force) then there should be no cause for concern because people will not follow one who they consider to be, not a leader but a criminal and a murderous monster. The judges’ fear, however, points to a different reality than the mainstream media, in the west in particular, has been telling its audience. In sum, if Saddam Hussein calls for the unification of all factions to fight the occupying forces and the government contradicts that call, one would think that the people will follow the leader, be it Saddam or the government; the fear that the people will follow Saddam rather than the "government" demonstrates a deeper truth; one that should be considered by all those on the outside looking in. Saddam Hussein remains a more popular leader than we have been lead to believe and the "government" is even more impotent in their ability to lead the people than is being described in the Mainstream media.

The Sign Of Leadership
The President of Iraq has shown he is absolutely willing to take the full responsibility of the "crimes" he has been charged with in direct contradiction of Western leaders who to this day refuse to admit that the war, as argued pre-invasion, had absolutely no legal basis. Liberal crimes in Canada, Conservative thievery in the United States, from Karl Rove to Katrina no North American leader is willing to admit fault and take full responsibility for the downfalls of a nation yet Saddam Hussein, the "Monstrous Dictator", with the threat of hanging does not shovel off any responsibility to those who he trusted. For better or for worst Saddam will not hide behind his followers. "I am the President of Iraq", he says. The more we see of post-Saddam leadership the more evident it becomes. Saddam Hussein is the leader of Iraq.

Wiseprince,

I'm sure if Saddam agreed to give the USA open access to all of Iraq's resources he would be back in power right now. That still could happen. If I ever though that the occupiers truly cared about the Iraqi people I may not be thinking this way, but I do not believe they do.

I was happy to see this post!
Saddam is twenty times the man that wimp/liar in the White House is!
Saddam is the only one who can rule Iraq.
He isn't as bad as Bush makes him out to be. I've read his bio.
He is on trial for killing 143 people???
Why isn't Bush & Cheney on trial for killing nearly 200,000 Iraqi women, elderly & kids in their illegal, immoral war?
Now they want to NUKE Iran on Mar. 28. Iran is changing to the Euro on 20th. (Mon)
Saddam changed to or planned to change to the Euro when Bush bombed Iraq.
Connect the dots!

Yea, I connected the dots. It turned into a picture of Mickey Mouse(tm).

So, Saddam was such a nice guy, that he built himself many palaces, and palaces for his sons - while millions of Iraqi children starved?

Guilty of killing only 143 people? I don't think so. He gassed thousands at least.

143 is what Bush has him "charged" with in his illegal court.
I see, but its ok for Bush to illegally invade Iraq & bomb & kill nearly 200,000 innocent elderly, women & kids?
All for oil & money?
Saddam was going to change to the Euro when Bush made all those lies (that he admitted to!) for an excuse to bomb Iraq.
And now that Iran is planning on changing to the Euro on Mon 20th, so Bush is going to Nuke them on 28? Because we can't have the Euro ruining the petro dollar, can we?
And thats ok, too?
Try doing some research & don't just listen to the american corporate news.

"143 is what Bush has him "charged" with in his illegal court."

There's a guy on trial in Vancouver for the murder of dozens of prostitutes. They think he's responsible for more than 60 murders. 30 or so is all they can prove.

143 is all the Iraqi prosecutor can prove.

"I see, but its ok for Bush to illegally invade Iraq & bomb & kill nearly 200,000 innocent elderly, women & kids?
All for oil & money?"

Logical fallicy. I said nor implied nothing of the sort.

"And now that Iran is planning on changing to the Euro on Mon 20th, so Bush is going to Nuke them on 28?"

I'll look in on this thread come the 29th, and we'll see . . . Seems I remember a story that martial law was to be declared in the US last fall. And some guy from the future predicted US civil war this year too. . .

"Try doing some research & don't just listen to the american corporate news."

Swedie, I do far more research than most. Try to follow the same advise, but switch "american corporate news" with "tinfoil hat brigade".

Even with all the palaces and fringe benefits of being an American puppet leader Saddam still didn't cost his country as much as the Bush administration cost the U.S. With his war exploits and deep tax cuts for the rich. Constantly beating the hell out of their debt ceiling and asking for more money from congress to give to his rich contractor friends(base).
As for letting his people down, well, again bush is the proven the bad guy with Katrina. I believe that Saddam loved his country however power corrupts.
