They were abducted in November in Baghdad with American Tom Fox, who was later killed. His body was found March 10 with gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said Loney and Sooden required hospital treatment but he provided no details. Kember was reportedly in "reasonable" condition.

Actually, the better question is: Just who are the "Swords of Righteousness Brigade" anyway? Kurt Nimmo has an interesting opinion at: http://kurtnimmo.com/?p=270

As he notes, little is known about the Swords of Righteousness Brigades, although it is believed, according to the SITE Institute, they are connected to the Islamic Army in Iraq (IAI). IAI is described as “one of a number of underground Islamist militant, or mujaheddin, organizations formed in Iraq following the 2003 invasion of Iraq by United States,” according to Wikipedia.

IAI, al-Jazeera reports, is not primarily Salafi, that is to say the organization does not subscribe per se to Sunni Wahhabism, but is influenced by and has members from the Muslim Brotherhood, a fact that should send up a big fat red flag.

Moreover, IAI, said to be linked to “al-Qaeda,” is apparently dedicated to portraying the Iraqi resistance as blood-thirsty thugs, as they executed Italian independent journalist and Red Cross worker Enzo Baldoni, a humanitarian who also worked in Colombia, Chiapas, Myanmar, and East Timor. Logic would dictate that a journalist who interviewed Zapatista leader Subcomandante Marcos in Chiapas and Xanana Gusmao in East Timor, leaders of resistance movements, would be of more use to the Iraqi resistance alive, but instead we are to believe some sort of minor and insignificant political statement was made by killing him.

Peter Goodgame (The British, the Middle East and Radical Islam) has documented Muslim Brotherhood links to both the CIA and MI6. Goodgame quotes Dr. John Coleman, a former British Intelligence agent, that the Muslim Brotherhood was created by “the great names of British Middle East intelligence, T.E. Lawrence, E.G. Browne, Arnold Toynbee. St. John Philby and Bertrand Russell,” and that their mission was to “keep the Middle East backward so that its natural resource, oil, could continue to be looted.”

In 1955, writes the Palestinian-American journalist Said Aburish (A Brutal Friendship: The West and the Arab Elite), according to “CIA agent Miles Copeland, the Americans began looking for a Muslim Billy Graham…. When finding or creating a Muslim Billy Graham proved elusive, the CIA began to cooperate with the Muslim Brotherhood, the Muslim mass organization founded in Egypt but with followers throughout the Arab Middle East…. This signalled the beginning of an alliance between the traditional regimes and mass Islamic movements against Nasser and other secular forces.”

In more recent years, “State Department and CIA officials have met with Brotherhood activists in Egypt, Kuwait, Jordan, the Palestinian territories and elsewhere to track currents within Islamic politics,” the Washington Post reported in September, 2004. For the CIA, of course, tracking Islamic political “currents” is the same as manipulating them, as the long and sordid history of the spook organization reveals.

So here we see, like the majority of the "Iraqi Resistance", the SRB is actually a CIA-funded and controlled black-op designed to promote instability in the region and to give credibility to the bogus Resistance. All we are told in the mainstream are lies. And now they have been "released", in a "highly-organized, co-ordinated operation", that funnily enough, just happens to not catch any of the kidnappers. Hmmmmmm. How convienient.
"Members of Canada's top secret commando unit, Joint Task Force 2, had been in Iraq working in tandem with British troops, said officials. It's not clear how many were in Iraq, but they have been in the country for some time."
Wow. So, we send our elite anti-terror forces into a country where citizens are being held hostage by terrorists.
How silly of us. You know, to create that force, then act surprized when they do their job. Of course they'd hook up with the British. They'd have no other way to get 3 meals and a rack, nowhere to get ammo. If I hade to guess, I'd say JTF2 was in country the day after those men were kidnapped.

I have no problem with Canadian commandos freeing non combatant citizens anywhere, as long as they don't stay there .
On the other hand, it is quite usual and common practice to send specialists from the armies of neutral countries into war zones for training and experience in new methods of killing. There were Canadian officers and ranks fighting with the British army in Ireland during the big upheavals, some years ago.
This is also one of the purposes of countries sending military attaches to other countries, to act as real, but unofficial spies.
As far the repeated claims that we must fight because the Muslims are planning to take us over.....let's be real.
I thought this kind of propaganda nonsense has died with the nazis and communists. How in hell could they ? Sure, it is a long known and accepted military fact that when a terrorist is willing to die, there's no way to stop him.
But wholesale invasion of the West by Muslim forces ??????
With what ? Flying carpets ?

Death Squad Democracy

By Mike Whitney

SNIP

For three years the Iraqi resistance has successfully kept American troops on the defensive; taking control of more area, destroying pipelines and oil facilities at will, discouraging enlistment in the Iraqi Security Forces, and undermining public support among Americans (63% of who now believe the war was "a mistake")

These are the goals of every guerilla movement; a gradual erosion of public support, deflating morale, surprise attacks, and eliciting greater support from the general population.

It is clear that this has been a winning strategy for the resistance, and not one that they would readily abandon to pursue an ethnic/religious war. So, where does the violence originate? Could it be that the independent militias are engaged in sectarian war without help from the greater resistance?

It could be, but it's not likely. Again, the only one who benefits from civil war is the US military; and it's clear that the military has no other option but to follow a "divide and rule" strategy. They simply don't have the human resources for any other plan.

In a larger sense, the "alleged" sectarian violence is consistent with what we have seen in previous CIA-run operations in El Salvador and Nicaragua. Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Negroponte are alumna of those conflicts (which, according to Cheney, succeeded quite admirably) so it's probable that they would apply what they have learned about counterinsurgency to the ongoing war in Iraq. The El Salvador-experiment proved that the masses can eventually be terrorized into compliance.

Isn't that what is taking place in Iraq? In Iraq, terror is being used as a substitute for security, because the United States has no intention of providing the manpower or funding needed to maintain order.

SNIP

In Max Fuller's seminal article "For Iraq, the 'Salvador Option' becomes Reality" the author disproves the idea "that sectarianism is a sufficient explanation for the violence in Iraq". Instead, Fuller says that what is taking place is in "the hands of the state" and a "part of the ongoing economic subjugation of Iraq."

Fuller's well-documented article is indispensable in making sense of the apparent chaos:

"In Iraq, the war comes in two phases. The first phase is complete: the destruction of the existing state, which did not comply with the interests of British and American capital. The second phase consists of building a new state tied to those interests and smashing every dissenting sector of society. Openly, this involves the same sort of shock therapy that has done so such damage in swathes of the Third World and Eastern Europe. Covertly, it means intimidating, kidnapping, and murdering opposition voices."

Fuller backs up his observations with ample evidence; citing open-source material he has compiled in his research:

"What we do know, however, is that hundreds of Iraqis are being murdered and that paramilitary hit-squads of the proxy government organized by US trainers with a fulsome pedigree in state terrorism are increasingly being associated with them."

The objective of the death squads is not simply to target one particular group or ethnicity, but to direct the violence outwards creating as much fear as possible in order to pacify the population.

Fuller winds up his polemic with a summary statement that confirms the long and bloody history of colonial wars:

"The pattern is repeated time after time in every imperialist so-called counter-insurgency war; for behind each and every one lurks the reality of exploitation and class war, and, as successive imperialist powers have shown, the bottom line in combating the hopes and dreams of ordinary people is to resort to spreading terror through the application of extreme violence."

Death Squad Democracy

What's this piece of garbage Diogenese? It's all Greek to me. Perhaps you'd be kind enough to have it translated and re-submit it. Thanks.
Frank
You have made your decision so why would you want more of that which you disagree?
That is just plain silly
