Dr. David Suzuki has once again shown why he is a great Canadian and, at the same time, demonstrated the paucity of leadership in Canadian politics. On Monday evening, he released a report and plan to slash carbon emissions. Highlights of the plan include:

Phasing in a levy of $100/ton of carbon.

Will raise $50 billion in revenue by 2020.

Will lower carbon emissions by 20% of 2006 levels

Use the revenue to reduce personal income taxes.

If Suzuki would have provided a provision for paying Flaherty's back room boys with $122,000 for writing a 20 page speech, and some kick backs to Harper's pals at The Friends of Science, Harper's minions might have paid attention to him.
I like David and have enjoyed watching his excellent science show for years, but he must know that the hypothesis behind global warming is more than just a little uncertain, and may in fact be completely false.
Everyone knows that we just experienced one of the coldest winters in years with the polar ice returning back to size and glaciers growing once again. No wonder they've silently morphed "global warming" into "climate change". Yes indeed the climate is changing, as it has been since the planet first formed, but what about the global warming, why is it no longer being discussed and why was it renamed into "climate change"?
I know many people are still backing up "global warming" and taxation as a means to slow it down, even though they know its not real. They are doing it because they think it's a great way to frighten people to become more concerned about the environment and accept costly policies that are supposedly designed to reduce pollution. To back up taxation as a solution is madness, since taxation is yet another scam and the revenues won't be put to use finding alternative energy sources. The problem is that when you use deceit and lies to promote even a position that appears to be beneficial on the surface, sooner or later the lies and deceit will come back to haunt you in the form of a backlash along with the many profiteers who will milk the system for what it's worth while doing nothing in return.
The global warming / climate change stunt is stupidity beyond stupid.
rearguard I couldn't agree more. The fact that a quarter of a billion dollars is going into carbon capturing is infuriating. Why do this. How about some more MRI's and the people to operate them? How about a million other things besides this global warming lie?
I can understand tax where the 'sin' is, but my problem is. Taxing gas and desiel only hurts the ordinary people. Gas is prices is always climbing and chewing away at my weekly pay, from 5% before all the hike to 15% out of my weekly budget. Thats just for my veichle not to mention the trickle down affect of transportation cost thats added on the products I buy.
We are getting poorer people.
Alternative fuels and now. Stop depending on these oil companies that have meshed to gether to illiminate competitions.
I'll stop before i get off topic.
Suzuki's score is -10 000 for the way he speaks to school children.
So, Dr. Suzuki. If I plant trees, do I get tax credits?
The carbon taxes paid by businesses, will bentax deductible expenses, therefore the public will pay for them with everything we buy
They will also permit the artificial raising of prices, as it happened in many other
cases. We go to town to shop twice a month and every time we see higher prices, without any logical reason, or explanation.
Now they will have a good one and rest assured the profits will grow. But it also should make politicians and economists happy, as rising costs mean rising GDP.
Ed Deak.
"So, Dr. Suzuki. If I plant trees, do I get tax credits?"
Of course not, you only get penalized for both good *and* bad behaviour, you will *never* be rewarded unless you are some dick head that's high up in the government protected food chain.
"It's no lie. It's here, it's fact ..."
For the first time in years I had to buy snow tires for my car. F*cking global warming .. er, climate change cost me a bundle.
"... what the result will be is largely understood, but not fully."
Assuming things do eventually get hotter after the current ice age finally comes to an end, then that'll be a much better thing than getting colder or staying as we are. The historical record shows that we'll have a much longer growing season, more habitable land with mangoes to eat up North and whole lot more rain and much less drought. Life will be good.
Now if only we can do something about corporate/government greed and deception - the *primary* cause of all of our problems, then and only then, will we see significant improvement.

Always good to stop off at Vive le Canada, where I don't have to go to the Exxon-Mobile or the US Government website to read climate change debunkers spew nonsense that it's all just a big conspiracy theory to make them buy fluorescent lightbulbs.
Global Warming may, in the end, trigger the next Ice Age, if it successfully shuts down the Atlantic conveyor belt of warm water that comes up from the equator and keeps Europe warm, for example. Greenland is happily melting it's arse off attempting to do just that. IF that happens, the U.K. and much of Europe will be plunged into a new ice age. Forget winter tires, people there will be riding snowmobiles most of the year.
SO again, for the scientifically challenged, Global Warming is Real, it's Here, it's not going away, get used to it! The media and the government will try to keep you confused for as long as they possibly can, while we log and drill and pump ourselves to death, but in the end, we will all suffer. Scientists, when they get together in huge numbers and scream, scream while governments try to muzzle them, DO NOT HAVE AN AGENDA other than to get the message out!
When is a graph not a graph, just because you can see a hockey stick in it? What kind of inane ridiculous argument is that??? I mean, come on. How about the Peak Oil graph? Geez, it looks like a big titty! Ha ha ha, it can't be real! Why do I even bother wasting my breath, with ludicrous arguments like that? And who exactly has proven that the IPCC are 'a bunch of lying UN flacks' ??? Perhaps someone from the Bush Administration? Do you watch Faux News or something? Good god.
Government, Oil and Gas, and consumer driven Corporations, OTOH, DO have an agenda. And you poor deniers are buying their bull, hook line and sinker.
Sgt_ShockNAwe
Suzuki says [man-made] global warming deniers are "shills" for big corporations. I say anyone who's stupid enough to buy into the scam is a "shill" for the Globalists. This is the most obvious canned argument made to discredit anyone who can dispute the junk science that man-made global warming is founded on. Don't believe me? Listen to what the IPCC scientists are saying off the record.
Where do you think this $50 billion in revenue is going to come from? Ultimately, our pockets! Yes, you and me, not the big corps.
If he's talking carbon taxes today, don't be surprised if he starts talking about population reduction tomorrow. Then what comes after that?
If this man really wants to make a difference, why doesn't he tell the Canadian public that BP is dumping shit loads of mercury into the great lakes, or that all those poor polar bear photos were staged...or that Monsanto's contaminating all our Canola and Corn and wiping out the family farms?
These are the real issues, not trying to screw the economy and fleece the public.
See, he's just talking the good talk so all us poor suckers feel much obliged to give more of our hard earned money to the crooks at the top.
